Value's pretty reasonable but I would guess this kind of deal only happens if the leafs make some sort of deal themselves and need the cap space

This is not reasonable whatsoever.

I mean I love Dermott and I do think he has value in general but considering the circumstances I don't see the leafs getting much more then that if they need to trade him

They are currently $1M over the cap, Dermott has no value to us and trading him would make us cap compliant, while isles get a defenseman that could maybe play top-4 in a sheltered role, but is most like just a 3rd pair guy

82 game season means there's likely some injuries to Rielly, Brodie, Muzzin, Holl or Sandin so keeping Dermott as our 6th or 7th guy has more value than a 6th round pick. Otherwise you end up with a mid-season Marincin signing.

Were only 1mill over the cap because of roster moves, when some guys get sent down we wont be, not exactly a great position to be in but Dermott doesn't NEED to be trade yet, just looks like the odd man out if someone's gotta go

Paying a 7th defenseman 1.5 while Liljegren, Biega, Dahlstrom and Rubins can all do the same for way cheaper?

^ Yeah thats pretty much how I see it, moving Dermott for a pick without having another deal in place is pointless

I guess the only thing that I'm looking at here, in terms of the Isles roster, is that they've already got Thomas Hickey, and I do think that they give Salo a look this year as well.

Not that giving up a 6th for Dermott is wrong, I'd just guess that the Isles are done making moves this offseason.

Liljegren is the only one in that list who should be on the NHL roster next season.

I just think that Hickey probably deserves a shot. I like him. That being said, I could be way off, because sweet Lou loves him some Komarov, so I'd be surprised to see him buried.

All those guys (aside from Liljegren) are Dermott's age or older.

If they could be doing the same as Dermott but cheaper, they'd be NHL regulars by now.

Right??

If so many people are eager for Dermott to go to the Isles than it’s only fair that Lou overpays for this deal since Isles fans want Dermott more than Leafs fans want to move him

Leafs have way more NHL depth forwards, than NHL depth dmen.

I really don't see them moving Dermott.

Because it's awful value for a player they dont need to move?

I tried waiving players they still won't be under the cap unless they go with a 21 man roster. Only option is to put Kase on LTIR and that might not even be possible given the mixed reports

No its just that Isles fans see that Leafs are over the cap and want to exploit their cap

If we wanted to trade Dermott, the Isles aren't the only game in town. We're not desperate to move him and he's not the only piece that we can move (e.g. Engvall, Kerfoot, Mikheyev etc.)
