Letang, Chabot and Hughes, for starters. Heiskanen is above all of those guys.

I also find it funny how Petro was barely a top 10 guy around here when he was with the Blues (sometimes not even that), but he goes to Vegas and suddenly he's absolute top tier elite.

Hedman, Josi are the two best in my opinion. Letang you can remove, same as Chabot, Ekblad, and one of Slavin, Hamilton, or Hughes. It’s all opinion based.

Want proof? There were only 4 players last season who finished top 10 in point, goals and assists by D men those were Carlson, Headman, Hamilton and Petry and all 4 are among the best in the league defensively.

Doesn't mean He's better than Chychrun
He was a goal-scoring machine on a Arizona team who didn't make the playoffs

I said MABYE Chychrun right now, I want to see how Chychrun plays this season. Last season could be an outlier but if he can follow it up again this season I will give him a spot ahead of Petry

Knew a Bruins fan would try to dispute this but when has McAvoy put up more than 40 points and still been solid defensively? Petry has 4 straight years of 40+ points and is better defensively than McAvoy.

McAvoy was carrying that defense both in the regular season and playoffs. Also, in the playoffs McAvoy was above a point-per-game and had more points than a defenseman whose team made it to the SCF. The reason why Petry had more points than McAvoy reg season was Montreal's defense was better.

LMAO!!! did you seriously just say Montreal's defense was better than Boston's in the regular season?! Chiarot and Weber were barely AHL quality, Gustafsson and Merrill weren't even that. Kulak and Romanov couldn't get regular ice time to save their lives. The only D that were "better than Boston's" were Edmundson and Petry.

Edit** In the playoffs Montreal switched strategies to defense first instead of playing a 2 way game and Petry had a BROKEN HAND for half of the games.

Chiarot and Weber WHAT?

In the regular season last year they SUCKED, when the playoffs came they both elevated their games significantly.

The only defense partner with him was grzlceyk who was injured a lot. He played a games before getting injured in the playoffs and still no goals and no better than MCAvoy.
Edit: McAvoy also was more depended upon in regular season

You realize that Boston only allowed 134 goals last year in the regular season compared to Montreal's 165 right? Montreal finished with the 14th most goals against and Boston finished with the 27th most goals against. That literally means Boston was the 4th best team defensively and Montreal was ranked 18th
