Funny. Klingberg is better than Andersson and it isn't even a question.

Andersson is on a pretty good long term contract. Klingberg is a UFA in a year and we could end up with nothing from this trade

I get where you're coming from, but Dallas ain't going to add to a swap where they're giving up the better player.

Monahan is literally a better player than Hertl and has an extra year of term.
Andersson is locked up way longer than Klingberg and is only 24, while Klingberg is the better player that is an absurd overpayment

Pelletier is great, but why would SJ trade Hertl for a worse center? Kind of defeats the purpose of trading him in the first place.

might be, but if they can get them to extensions, then these trades might be the change up they were looking for

Sure but fix the values because both trades are completely lopsided for the other teams

What an absurd comment.

Hertl is a top 15-20 center in the NHL. His 2.42 5v5 points per 60 minutes scoring rate puts him in elite company. For reference, his rate of 5v5 scoring was above the likes of Mark Scheifele, Sean Couturier, Gabriel Landeskog, John Tavares, and Evgeni Malkin in 2020-21.

Stats don't lie.

I fail to see the issue, Hertl has played for a better team the majority of their careers and has only outproduced him once, that was this year when it is well known that Monahan played with a ****ed up hip since mid February

Oh he had a great year, I don't disagree with that but Stats also don't lie about him never being better than Monahan outside of this year

Even going off of EvolvingWild's WAR, the last time Monahan was better than Hertl was in 16-17...
(xWAR had him better in 17-18)

Note: It's the same for non per60.

You are welcome to disagree but the only thing Hertl has over Monahan is his performance this most recent season, where as I said above Monahan is well known to have been injured since mid February

WAR on EH doesn't account for QoC, Monahan's had a 90% QoC over the last 3 years to Hertl's 75% (as shown above). The numbers were quite close in 17/18 and 18/19 too

You can look at RAPM then, which is adjusted based on competition, which makes Monahan look even worse.

(Also RAPM is how they do calculate QoC in their WAR)

Sure, we can look at RAPM, here is what we get when we take out the season Monahan was clearly injured all year. It's quite obvious how much this most recent season effected those numbers.

cool, even when you completely ignore the last season, Hertl is still clearly better.

Strictly? Only defensively. Thats it.

Im still 100% taking the extra year of Monahan over Hertl, especially if the cost is a top 50 prospect in the league

Dramatically better defensively, and equal to, if not slightly better offensively, and that's with cropping the data for Monahan's benefit.

The Athletic just ranked Peletier 174th of under 23 players, top 50 is a bit generous, though I do think he is higher than 174.

I'm not arguing about it not making sense for Calgary (unless extension is agreed to), its your comment that "Monahan is literally a better player than Hertl."

That's fine but all the stats are clearly going against your statement. You're entitled to an opinion but I like to go off actual stats. I would never do this deal as a sharks fan, we can do better in a Hertl trade. I think u have overrated Pelletier just a tad.

Ill conceed my arguement anout Monahan being better despite him being more productive.

However being under 23 does not necessarily mean prospect. Mattyews was on the u23 list last year and he was in his 5th NHL season. The Athletic put out a top prospects list a couple weeks ago and Pelletier was ranked 46th
