Peterka & Quinn probably shouldn't be in the NHL this season

Johnson isn’t waiving for BUF so that deal is deader than a door knob.

A lot of the usual suspects here. Engval, dermott, koskinen, and komarov are all guys that their own fans seem thrilled to get rid of. The only guy thats even interesting to us would be kadri, as he would provide a veteran presence at center. If we did get kadri, i would keep him until the deadline before moving him, kadri would no doubt be more useful than engval and dermott. We are wasting 2 retention spots on butcher and eakin, those 2 spots could be used to facilitate a trade where we are the third party, at the deadline. I dont see koskinen coming back unless theres more of a sweetener, anderson was brought in specifically to mentor upl or a different young goalie, bringing in koskinen would serve no purpose unless it brings a useful pick/prospect.

I find humour in how often see this or similar oiler trade. So Buffalo gets a big upgrade in net and draft capital. What’s in it for Edmonton? Cap space is only useful when there is available options to spend it.

Sabres dont trade Eichel and not get a 22 first. They also wouldnt trade Kadri, if he doesnt want to go to Buffalo the deal is dead

Wouldn't say no from the Oilers side. Not a fan of most proposals trading a 2nd to dump Koskinen (even if it is market value).... he's a serviceable back-up, just overpaid. A 4th is definitely worth it from the Oilers side. From Buffalo's side it's a 1 year deal while they don't have cap issues and if he settled in well there he could be a reasonably priced 1B/back-up while they're looking for their next starter.

Then who’s going to back up smith?

Stalock should be a serviceable back-up. There's always Dubnyk who you could sign as a cheap UFA to bridge you as well or keep your eye on the waiver wire as teams with crowded creases send down their #3. Hindsight is 20/20, Nedejlkovich was on waivers last year to start the season.

Stalock hasn’t played an nhl game in well over a year.
Dubnyk is not only questionable as good as kosk but it’s also questionable if he would even want to come back here.
Counting on waiver wire for a back up is not a good direction for any team looking to compete.
Kosk might be unfairly disliked by majority of fans but reality is he’s the best current option for Edmonton perhaps more options will open up come deadline but by then he could very possibly be the go to guy. Many seem to consider him overpaid but he’s provided fair value of his contract for the most part.

Over all pretty good.
That would be a great return for Jack.
You know Skinner will do better with a Head Coach who knows how to use him.
I think Girgensons surgery was successful and he will be ready for the season.
I will echo some of the comments:
Just keep Eakin, maybe he will bounce back under a new head coach.
If you are trying to get assets for him, it would be better to play him and trade him after he shows improvement.
If you are trying to cut cap, send him to Rochester and the cap reduction will be nearly identical.
The Butcher trade made my head spin.
Getting a fifth to take a player who had 11 pts in 23 games, while through his career is over 0.4pts/gm
He is much better than Hagg, and Hagg is a serviceable 6th or 7th defenseman.
IMO Quinn, Peterka and even Ruotsalainen could use more seasoning in Rochester.

Peterka & Quinn probably shouldn't be in the NHL this season. I agree for two reasons:
First, if they are ready, the Sabres want to do poorly, thus putting them in the line up would be counter productive.
Second, which I think is your point, they most likely need one more year competing against lower level talent.

Bruins reject. Most likely, but I think he just chose the Bruins as a possible landing spot for Eakin.

Johnson isn’t waiving for BUF so that deal is deader than a door knob. I suppose you are correct, BUT, salary would have to be moved. It could be other players who do not have a NTC.

Sending Eakin to Rochester would save just as much on the cap as half retention. We need to understand, just because Butcher came with a fifth does not mean he is cap dump. He had 11 pts in 23 games last year. HIs advanced stats are far better than Hagg.

...So Buffalo gets a big upgrade in net and draft capital... I have heard this from other EDM ACGM's, while I would make that trade in a heart beat, IMO EDM would find another path to getting below the cap.
