I mean, for Carolina, I love the idea of somehow signing KK for $4.4x7, but I just don't see it happening. Consider that the total value there is $30.8 mil over 7 years. If he were to just accept a couple of consecutive qualifying offers, he'd already be 40% of the way towards the total value, with 5 years to make up the rest. Alternatively, Carolina declines to qualify him, meaning that he'd become a UFA, and that he'd have his pick of the litter.

Now, is he worth more at this very moment? Not really...but I've gotta imagine that by signing a 1 year offer sheet, that he's prepared to bet on himself. I could be way off though.

I think there's a handshake on a framework of a 4-5x4-5.5 deal. Now if he gets off to a torrid start in first half of the season, I can see him and his camp backing off and asking for closer to 6.5 on that term. If he gets off to a good but not great start I could see him signing a reasonable extension in January. $25-30m over 5ish years is probably way more than he expected a couple of months ago. Maybe the $6M he's getting this year makes him more comfortable betting on himself longer term like you said but I think it would be hard to reject 25-30 as a sure thing in an environment that has less pressure and some really good talent to play with.

He probably shouldn't and won't play top line, but you can also put him anywhere on those top 3 lines honestly. Would imagine they distribute the minutes pretty evenly and you want to make sure you're putting him with other talented players and not just sheltering him with grinders in the bottom 6.

Would be a really fun team - would love for things to pan out this way.

Canes have up a first for Skjei was he stunk in NYR system. He has changed that and has proved his worth here. I think he could fetch a first.

A 1st, late in the round maybe, but not a top 10 pick.
