Description
These are, arguably, the top 5 Dmen in the NHL-
1 Hedman $7.785MM 816 GP
2 Krug $6.500MM 574 GP
3 Josi $9.059MM 680GP
4 Hamilton $9.000MM 607GP
5 Pietrangelo $8.000MM 799GP
Quinn Hughes 129GP
It has been speculated that Hughes will get paid more than $8.000MM/year.
Is he worth more than Hedman and Pietrangelo?
I'd say he is worth closer to what Krug is being paid and perhaps a little less.

I'm paying Pettersson the same as Ovechkin..$9.500MM

I’m guessing he will get 8+M on a 8 year deal, and Pettersson will get a bridge. For a second there I thought we were talking about trade value haha. Also, Krug isn’t a top 5 defence man in the NHL in my opinion. There are so many defence men that are better.

Comps work better if you use guys that are around the same age and contracts that buy up the same number of UFA years. Those deals you're referencing are a whole different animal, FA signings/extensions that are entirely UFA years for proven stars. I haven't done the research but top of my head I'd say Quinn is looking at the Werenski bridge (3 yr x 5m) or the Heiskanen long-term (8 yrs x 8.45m), give or take.

don't compare Hugues with these old D... go with Heiskenen, Makar type of deal... he should go less longer so little cheaper but around this... 4y x 7m

That might be the worst top 5 d men list I’ve ever seen. Only Hedman belongs.

Hughes should get 3x4.5

I don’t think those comps make sense. Most of those guys signed those deals in their prime. Krug isn’t a good comp imo, he’s nowhere near top 5.

Better comps would be guys like Makar Heiskanen Werenski. Fox will then use those 3 and Hughes next year as his comps.

Don't use way older players as contract comparisons. Makar, Heiskanen, and, Werenski, and Provorov are the best comparisons for long term deals. McAvoy and Sergachev are good comparisons for bridge deals.
