At this moment, the Cats have almost 4M in cap space (after they've sent at least two players to the minors, which they need to do)
Next year, they will have 8 contracts expiring combining 16M. Then you subtract the 3,1M of Verhaeghe's raise, the 3M from Yandle's buyout and add 1M from Luongo's recapture penalty expiring. You're left with ~11M.
So, for the next offseason, the Panthers have that 11M plus the 3M+ they have right now and the 1M from cap going up. That's over 15M to get Sasha and a few other players (6 or 7, which includes guys on their ELCs like Lundell and Denisenko, who do not currently show up on Capfriendly)
