Thanks for the second rounder, but now Detroit has somehow increased their amount of defensemen from "too many" to "Jon Cooper in the playoffs"

you can flip dermott for a pick or two and biega is a warm body and a call up incase of injuries

a 1st round pick at half retained probably gets beat by another team but if it's a buyers market then getting Forsberg without giving up Robertson would be great but tbh I'm not that high on him.

robertson is gonna be a stud, no reason to not be high on him, he hasnt showed anything besides elite upside, hes been nhl ready since he was 18

Regardless if you think he's gonna be good in the future he isn't going to be better than Forsberg this year and considering Toronto is on a win-now period I believe this trade makes sense unless you have a different prospect you think they should trade id be curious to hear.

you dont make moves like that, it messes up the makeup of the franchise, i think hirvonen/abramov/abrussezze makes more sense

Detroit has only used one retention spot so they would have two more left and after the Stecher trade they would have 1 not 0

totally forgot Savard is off the books. Still think if Stetcher plays well DET wants a 1st for him in return rather than more warm bodies.

I like Stecher but I don't see him returning a 1st but you could flip Dermott for a 2nd and package the 2nd you get from Toronto and whatever team you trade Dermott to for a 1st

that doesn't make sense from value aspect... so Stecher is worth a 2nd, but Dermott is worth a 2nd and you want to exchange him for Troy who you don't think is worth more?

And then why would DET trade a friendly deal within division by accepting warm bodies as return vs futures?

I think value wise they are similar but I'd give the edge to Stecher but the reason I'd make this trade is because of the cap, as for in division trades I don't think Yzerman cares cause he knows that Detroit isn't competing for 1-2 more years and most likely that Toronto won't be able to re-sign Stecher unless they get rid of Rielly. These moves are purely made for this year for the leafs and for the red wings this gives them more draft capital in a deep draft year.

right but why would DET lessen their futures value in a trade with Stetcher by absorbing warm bodies which they have plenty already ? That's why I consider this a friendly deal and therefore why to TOR from DET?
