more like Dumb-a trade idea

and pretty close value at a glance, just not sure if it would help either team, as both would still have trouble signing these RFAs

It depends… Vancouver is giving up a center man, and a winger. Minnesota is giving up two wingers, and a defence man, and taking on a cap dump. Pettersson is really good so maybe it’s worth it to them… I would say both teams decline. Kaprizov is too good to give up on, Fiala is a good second liner, and without Dumba that defence is bad! For Vancouver, Pettersson is their 1c, and will be for years, Boeser is their 1RW, and works well there. Myers is a cap dump so is it worth it if you are taking on Myers? Idk, I guess it depends on if Minnesota can’t sign Kaprizov. This one is tough, and I can see why both teams reject. I like it!

An interesting blockbuster idea. I could see MIN going after Petey, but it would be to play with Kaprizov. I just don’t see this trade happening. The only way this trade would even remotely have a chance at happening is if Kaprizov can’t be signed. Would love to see a line of Kaprizov-Peterson-Boeser. One of the best lines there would be.

"Value" is a team addressing their needs and in this case, Vancouver is giving up a franchise center with no one to replace him with.

Initial reaction is that no 1 center is premium asset, then RHD.

Pettersson is established as a no. 1 center, but Dumba hasn’t done the same.

Kaprisov is the best winger, but not enough to offset the above.

Don’t think either team does it, but from a value perspective, I think the Wild need to add

Yeah I figured it's one of those "both teams say no" type trades, but there's some interesting aspects to it on both sides. Vancouver could bridge Kaprizov where anything less than 4 years poses a big problem for Minnesota with the Parise/Suter buyouts. To replace Petey, JT Miller could shift to center full time and they could roll with Kaprizov - Miller - Fiala on 1st line which would be solid.

Obviously for MIN, downgrading from Dumba to Myers would suck, but if Addison could take over second defensive pairing duties, Kulikov-Myers third pair would be... uhhh... entertaining to say the least... Lot of hits and lots of penalties! haha

The fact that Kaprizov and Fiala are both wingers kills this deal for Vancouver

The rumored 4/5 x $9m deal for Kaprizov (if even true) is comparable to what Pettersson might sign, Fiala and Boeser both need new contracts next year, and Dumba isn't the best defensively (something VAN needs in a defenseman) and needs a new contract as well. So cap-wise, VAN will probably be in worse shape because they'll need to re-sign Dumba to more $$ and Fiala/Boeser may get a similar enough number. On top of that, VAN loses their established 1C for some wingers. I just don't see how this makes sense financially, positionally, or long-term.

Value-wise, I think it is very, very close!
Kaprizov vs Pettersson = nod to Pettersson because of his position and age.
Fiala vs Boeser = a dead heat/equal
Dumba vs Myers = Once Dumba is extended he is a significant upgrade to Myers.
Add them all up and the sides are very close! The Wild might need to add a 2nd or a good prospect.
