This makes a decent amount of sense for the Sabres. It includes 3 guys, 2 who are young and looking good. The only thing that they may push on, is adding a center, because the depth is weak rn.

could replace one of the first rounders with one of zary, pelletier or coranato but personally I think the deal above is pretty close to the right value

I think it is too. All I'm saying is exactly what you suggested a swap out of a 1st for a Zary, Pelletier, or Coronato. Granted, I think the Sabres would be more than happy to accept this deal at this point.

Flames arent trading Andersson, they will win more games with what they currently have than this roster. Gudbranson shouldnt be seeing top 6 minutes let alone top 4

Ottawa is acquiring Monahan. If you disagree with the evaluation on the value for Monahan that's fine. What Calgary does with the assets they receive from Ottawa is none of Ottawa's business. as the title reads I'm trying to make some sense of the reason Calgary currently has 9 defensemen under contract to start the season. the way I'm doing that is positing that Anderson (Calgary's most valuable piece on defense) is what Buffalo is asking for. In order to make the money work Monahan needs to be shipped out. Ottawa is weak at the centre position. Monahan fills that role

I know that you don't consider anyone's opinions on here unless they mirror yours but if andersson is what buffalo is asking for to acquire Eichel then the flames would be morons not to try to make a trade work

If Buffalo is willing to take those three Ottawa assets, Ottawa has a better prospect pool to pull from to finish the deal and they can acquire Eichel.

again that's not how three team trades work. if ottawa was willing to throw their prospect pool at buffalo for the services of Eichel a trade likely would have been completed already. Ottawa is still in rebuild. destroying their prospect pool to acquire Eichel would not be setting the team up for success.

Also obviously this is a situation where ottawa isnt willing or interested in putting up atleast 2 more 1st round picks or equivalent to get eichel

I listen to other peoples opinions, but i strongly disagree with this one. I've been very clear on here that I want Calgary to acquire Eichel but you dont do that by trading your current 1C, your current top top pair RD and a bunch of futures.

If you think this team is better with Eichel and Gudbranson in the top 4 than Monahan and Andersson then fine but you dont fill in holes by making a bigger one somewhere else

Just my opinion but our hole at the forward position is a long festering giant gash. sure losing andersson sucks and does create a weaker defensive line but if you dont like gudbranson as second pairing then mix one of mackey or kylington into the bottom pair and make gudbrason the 7th d-man. my point is the flames and sutter apparently have put their money on gudbranson being atleast serviceable otherwise why would they sign him for close to 2 million. he wont be riding the bench all season you can almost guarantee that.

Andersson is our current top pair defenseman but he sure didnt play like that last season

It doesn’t matter how three team trades work, that’s completely irrelevant. My comment was specific to your team needing to acquire assets to make your trade, this isn’t trading a paper clip for a house. Please respond with some more nonsense when you miss my point entirely, again.

If it was Logan Brown and OTT's 2nd instead of Connor and Tampa’s would you do it?

For Eichel or Monahan?

I’m just having a chuckle over flipping Ottawa assets to get Eichel when Ottawa is in a better position to trade for him, and have interest in him. This trade has two assets, as the pick isn’t the Ottawa pick, whereas other threads use the Ottawa pick as well, making it all three assets.

It’s the paper clip for a house scenario, where it’s making multiple trades that advantage this team, eventually landing the big prize. Again, I’m just having a chuckle at it.

For Monahan obviously, Brannstrom L. Brown and a 2nd do3snt even come remotely close to Eichel

Flipping Ottawa's assets + 3 other 1sts in value? I mean if you want to add 3 1sts (probably more since its in division) to get him yourself then sure

Of course Eichel because if Ottawa has a choice, they’re trading for Eichel, your Logan Brown trade idea was for the consolation prize centre. My point was, if Buffalo is willing to accept these assets, Ottawa would know, and trade for Eichel themselves. I asked Eichel or Monahan because the target is Eichel, if Buffalo is willing to take these assets. To repeat, it’s about Buffalo willing to take these assets, and Ottawa doesn’t need Calgary in the trade.

Ottawa can easily offer CBrown and Brannstrom, along with White, who Buffalo likes, instead of Anderson, and up the pick from the 2nd to a 1st. The other 1st equivalent would more likely come from Ottawa’s deep prospect pool instead of the pick.

Uh sure but its been reported that Buffalo has no interest in trading him within the division

yea buffalo isnt trading within the division so get that fallacy out of your head. I don't like Calgary's chances either but at least its possible.

No chance Ottawa makes that trade. I would bet a lot that they value Connor Brown more than Sean Monahan at this moment.

His even strenght production (61st in EVP since 2019-20), his PK prowess (major threat on the PK), his Selke level defense (voted 17th for Selke), his takeways (2nd behind Mark Stone last season), his speed, work ethic and non-stop motor, his leadership, etc... with a 3.6 AAV for 2 more seasons... too valuable for Ottawa
