Description
The Kings can afford to move some prospects and picks, they have great talent in the system at virtually every position. This puts the Kings into contention for the long term and gives AZ an offer I don't think they can pass on.

That's a good collection of prospects and picks, but I'd think Arizona would want a young LHD coming back. It looks like Maatta is really only there for cap reasons, and I don't see him making much of an impact in Arizona anyway, so I think a defense prospect would probably be the best way to sweeten this kind of deal. Chychrun is one of the few members of Arizona's young core (and best defenseman on the team by far), so he'd likely be hard to pry away from them, especially right after his huge breakout season. I can only imagine how much worse they'd get from losing him, and they're already projected to be in the bottom 3 lol.

As a King fan, I don’t mind this deal. I believe it’s close but probably an NHL ready D-man to replace Chuychern right away. Maybe Bjornfot or Clague or both. Just spit balling here. I also don’t believe they ever trade Akil Thomas. I think they’re really high on him and would sacrifice most of their other prospects before trading himself

LA is in a great spot, where they have a great prospect at every position, they could easily make this work. AZ trading Dvorak, likely selling Kessel at the deadline, and moving Keumper tells me they're heading towards another long term rebuild. Chychrun trade expedites that quite quickly with the return they'd get.

I think the difference with a Chychrun trade is that he’s actually establishing himself as a top 10 defenseman in the league, and at his age that kind of talent isn’t worth moving unless he gets an absolutely bonkers return (especially considering Arizona’s near-complete lack of high-end young talent on D apart from Chychrun). A rebuild needs good players to support the others and to keep fans from tuning out, and Chychrun looks to still be in his prime when Arizona makes the playoffs again.

The only issue with that is it's him, Keller, Schmaltz and that's about it. They have nothing else. Their prospects are okay, but nothing to ride home about, by the time this rebuild is complete, he'll be 28-29 on a new contract anyways. This offer seems like a pretty bonkers return.
