Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think if Ouellet stays up year round then his salary has to be league minim this year of $750,000.00 (an additional $12,500), This would put the Habs $14,227.00 over the cap. An impossible number to overcome. Scrap the whole idea.
Trades
1.
MTL
  1. Duchene, Matt ($1,500,000 retained)
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (NSH)
NSH
  1. Drouin, Jonathan
  2. Kapanen, Oliver [Reserve List]
  3. 2024 1st round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
Nashville saves money. Drouin is younger and likely produces the same amount of points per year moving forward. Montreal is not lacking in wingers and takes a flyer on Duchene regaining enough for to be a 2C
The draft picks may not be that far apart

Would you really need to even include the 1st? NSH should be happy to trade that long term deal for a shorter Drouin deal. NSH is going to be facing a rebuild soon...Poile's time is ending.

I would gladly take it out if Nashville would agree

Don't know if the Leafs could afford the increase in cap hit, but if they could, I would gladly take that deal.

It's a decent trade for mikheyev atleast. Cap is a problem with him being 650k more

That's a very good return for Mikheyev.

Id do Duchene for drouin straight across as a Nashville fan. Not a big fan of either player tbh but the shorter contract is appealing

Yeah, I wouldn't do it, but that's a straight up trade even with the retention. Nashville getting out of that contract with only $1.5M lost in the last 3 years is a win for them imo.

Too much for Mikheyev could just do a 3rd and be keep everything else. The guy wants out of Toronto and Montreal already have Lehonen and Armia who are better and Mikheyev isn't winning a top 9 spot so why would we give up so much for a redundant commodity to either play 4th line or sit in the press box?
