Ah yes. 3m in dead cap for 5 years... for a 2nd. Totally doable.

And that package doesn't get you Eichel. Maybe if you add two more 1sts to it.

No one is retaining 9 million for a 2nd. And the Eichel is about one or 2 1st round picks short. Sabres do not need bottom 6 players and potential top 6 forwards who are not cost controlled for years.

I disagree with other comments that should be more than enough to get eichel but will need to pony up significantly for that third party retention because of the term.

Its not enough. Buffalo needs higher end prospects or young players, mostly forwards. And the third team would be retaining 15 million (3 million, 5 years). You are welcome to value picks as you like, i figure a mid-first is worth about 5 million, so i would say, if you can get anybody to do it, it should cost about 3 firsts just for the third party retention.

Edit- nobody is doing that. Buffalo and arizona are probably the only teams willing to pay actual money to help teams curcumvent the cap, and they will wanna get something pretty nice for it. The sabres, i would hope, plan to be better in 3 years, which means all of the dead money retention crap would have to be off the books by the time they have to pay players to hopefully help them win games.

A 2nd round pick does not get you $15 million in cap space. That’ll cost 2 1sts and a 2nd at least.

A second may get you 3 million retention for a year. I think it's a little.light but let's say it flies.

So then it costs you FIVE seconds. Not one. One for each year

And the eichel trade is pretty crappy.

And your second depth is still poor for the future as Bergeron is in his mid 30s so you still only have one c for the future.

Yup you're right, you can't see any other way to get Eichel bc there is none that makes sense for BOS. Only scenario that makes sense is BOS getting him when hes a FA in 5yrs.

So
DeBrusk = 2 2nds
Lysell = 1st
Lohrei = 2nd
Moore = -2nd
Wagner = 5th
1st
2nd

Does that even equal the 4 1sts for what Eichel cost with zero retention? Probably not.

If you think a bunch of 2nds can make up the missing value then Arizona can just buy Shane Wright and still keep their 2nd OA

Well Buffalo is clearly shooting for the stars thinking getting four first for eichel in the first place. Need to be realistic they aren’t getting that ask for a guy still requiring a very significant surgery. This offer is as good as I see it getting.

I guarantee that Buffalo doesn’t get 4 firsts or close to that value. Is he worth it. Yes. But there are too many unknowns with his injury and Buffalo doesn’t have the leverage because he wants to leave. If they hold out too long his NMC sets in and things get worst for them. They need to trade him before the NMC kicks in. Or they are going to be paying 10Mil for nothing.

Will they get 4 1st, NO. But they will get a better offer, I would bet. And nobody is taking on that retention for one 2nd. Please explain why they would?
