Compared to other wingers, Marner is in an elite group of 9. Those 9 are in no order

Kucherov - 9.5
Stone - 9.5
Rantanen - 9.25
Panarin - 11.6
Marchand - 6.3
Pastrnak - 6.6
Huberdeau - 5.9
Kane - 10.5
Marner - 10.9

Based on those 9 let’s remove the upper tier of Kucherov and Panarin who are top 2 in my mind. Let’s also remove the wildly underpaid Marchand, Huberdeau and Pastrnak

That leaves us with 3 comparable players
Stone - 9.5
Rantanen - 9.25
Kane - 10.5
So yes he’s overpaid but only by about 1 millionish dollars. 9.5-10 would be more reasonable

I think he's a little overpaid. He should be making around 9.5M. But considering Canada's taxes, it's understandable that he got almost 11M

Taxes plays a factor. The ppg when he sign do to. He's not grossly overpaid as some say. Seen a show where a bucks guy said his contract is Loui Eriksson bad lmaooo

We know marner is good we know he can be dominant. Past 2 years in playoffs is a problem and it sucks but he's still young entering prime and has 4 years. Instead of hating on a 90 two way winger on your team maybe support him a bit more. Get upset if he don't preform up to par in playoffs. Leafs fans shouldn't hate him like a majority do.

Plus pre covid contract and it you want to say he's overpaid well then look at kucherov contract and add a bit more for having Toronto tax.

Marner and Matthews last 19 playoff games including the bubble 17 points each, Hyman had 5 points. So who really held the team back in the playoffs Hyman couldn't win the puck battles against columbus or the habs big d-men. Therefore the lines production went down and Marner became the scapegoat. People use to say Yzerman wasn't a leader until he finally won the cup now he's know as a great leader.

In my eyes Marner is the 2nd best 2-way winger in the league (Marchand). If he played the last game of the regular season last year he would have lead the league in ice time for forwards 2 years straight. 4th in league scoring, l think he also finished 6th in takeaways. Maybe Keefe should take him off the pk the last 15 games of the season so he can have some gas left come playoff time. Marner isn't your typical pk player he forechecks like crazy and when he gets the puck in his own end he's thinking offence so he skates a lot more then your regular pk player. The first full season he played with Kadri, Tavares and Matthews they all had a career high in goals. Only Matthews because he still plays with Marner has surpassed that milestone. Kadri and Tavares goals have dropped.
