OTT says no. Erik Johnson says no. And, if we're being honest, COL should say no.

Habs fans make up more then the bottom 10 NHL franchises fanbases combined
We rarely all agree on anything outside Gallagher and Price should retire in MTL

Outside that its just a bunch of conflicting viewpoints that get set aside come game time to cheer for the CH

Hey I never said that a lot of the fanbase didn’t want to trade Drouin. Habs fans are terrible.

Fortunately, the team isn’t run by the crazies that populate most of the habs fans on this website.

I mean even all habs fans can’t agree on Price and Gally. The only unanimous opinion is probably that Montréal shouldn’t trade Suzuki or Caufield.

I have yet to see a habs fan offer Suzuki or Caufield in an Eichel trade. It’s just been a bunch of fans of random teams trying to stir up ****.

Might have been when his status was more uncertain. He's talked to media and participated in a golf tournament since then.
There's also the fact that we simply can't trade most roster players as they were recently added and it's not good business to move on from long term commitments within a year or two.
Only Drouin, Byron, Lehkonen, Gallagher, (and Caufield) have been around long enough to consider trading. Two of those aren't likely to move and only one is a consideration to address a need.

I'm on the record as saying Caufield+ makes sense for a healthy Eichel. Objectively, his sample size is small and we have Toffoli and Hoffman. The "plus" would have to be lower than the rumored price, but it made sense before the Dvorak trade. Now it's better for us to wait and see how things shake out.

Chicago declines, not sure what that return accomplishes for them, it's just dumping cap.

Caufield and 2 years of $9 million in cap space isn’t anything I’d be willing to move for anyone other than McDavid.

Aren't you a Hurricane now? Traitor. squinty smile

Like I said. Objectively.
I agree with you that Caufield shouldn't be traded, but before Dvorak/Kotkaniemi happened, acquiring an elite 2C made more sense than hanging on to a young and unproven winger.
If you don't have an aging Price, Petry, and Gallagher (with an outside chance of Weber), no reason to consider it. When you do have those players on a closing window and have recently committed to other veterans to help, you have to consider wasting their years with a weak center core, or moving less established players to improve.

Cap dump?

AZ doesn't need cap space. They are a cap dump for the rest of the NHL this year and probably next year too, they want draft picks/prospects.
