If Nedelkovic gets $3M I dont see Kahkonen getting more than that. I like the Fiala trade though

That would be good. If Kahkonen got $3m that would allow them to sign a LD and give O'Rourke another year.

What an underwhelming return for Fiala. That 2nd rounder plays in the NHL in 2027 at the earliest and Foote is not a super special talent. You should net at least a 1st round pick or a top prospect for Fiala, even if he is an RFA.

Plus, Minny should get actual value back if they were to trade Talbot / Foligno. Not some scraps.

Not necessarily. If he is good, he could get a Sorokin type contract (3 years, 4M), or a Shesterkin contract (4 years 5.6M). I’m not as focused on the years, as I am on the salary. Most good starters, young or old, are getting in that 4-6M range now.

I think Devils would consider that (I certainly would).

I would certainly hope so. Fortunately the Wild would not consider this.

It would all depend on the contract I think.
If Fiala wants fastest route to UFA, Foote + 2nd would probably be on the higher end of returns since he would be a 1y rental.

If was willing to re-sign a 3-4 year extension, the comps I would use would be:

Comp 1: Sam Reinhart
Top-10 protected 1st round pick plus Devon Levi.

Comp 2: Pavel Buchnevich
2nd round pick plus Sammy Blais

Gotcha, yes sorry I should have stated that I assumed an extension here. Fiala wants a long term deal, so for any of these trade proposals with him involved, an extension would be essential.

Buch isn’t a trade comp tho. That’s a complete fleece and does not represent market.

Fair point on Buch - I think the takeaway would be Blais + protected 1st should have been the return. And would be consistent with Reinhart comp.

So from Devils, something like:

Zacha + 3rd
Kuokannen + 2nd
Wood + 2nd, 4th
Boqvist + protected 1st
Foote + protected 1st
Johnsson (50% retained) + unprotected 1st

Hughes, Hischier, Bratt and Sharangovich are likely off the table (Holtz, Mercer too)

Yeah that’s fair from the devils standpoint, I just don’t think any of those would be a winning offer. Fiala with an extension yields more than that IMO. I think if he were to be shopped, the wild could do better. But i can concede that maybe it’s not a fit with the devils, as they don’t need to overpay for someone like him at this time
