Studnicka Hype Wont Go Away

Created by: bruinsdude77

Description
Keep hearing Studnicka looks bigger, stronger, faster during off-season workouts. I don’t think it’s enough to take 2C (at least not right away) but a roster spot? Maybe even a starting job? Could be.

Usually when teams have thin prospect pools, their best prospect, even if they aren't that good, will be portrayed as being really good.

The signings this offseason don't really suggest that he has a role here.

The signings suggest that they wanted to fill out their bottom 6 depth. The guys they brought in to play center also play the wing....almost like Sweeney & Co. wanted the versatility if someone like Studnicka stepped up an earned a center spot sarcasm

He probably would play 4LW and battle against Frederic. I also can't imagine Sweeney would sign Wagner to a $1.35 million deal just to be a health scratch....yet that's exactly what happened at times last year and this year he's fighting for a spot.

It makes more sense to play him in PRO since hes still waiver ineligible and that there is really no room for him. Cassidy is gonna go with the veterans/new signings first. If they don’t work out or injuries happen then they’ll bring him up

Granted it was just 20 games but he was so incredibly bad last season ~barely scoring and -10 corsi~ so idk maybe the bulk helps but idk

I dont think that's necessarily true. The signings more to me suggest that you have a few last go arounds with Bergeron and you need to make sure you can spend and fill out a solid team. I think most Bruins fans/management will be happy if Studnicka wins a job and Nosek/Lazar are rotational pieces. It creates internal competition.

Studnicka hype has been going on for the last few years, but who knows? Great teams all have young guys who produce on ELCs

I mean a few of the main knocks i thought on him was he was getting hit off pucks too easily, wasnt keeping his footing, wasn't winning enough battles. So i mean bulking up is gonna help. He could really use an extra gear in my mind as well. Guess were gonna find out soon enough

There’s always been something about studnicka. One of the downsides of having a contending team is there’s no room to let a guy like that really get his feet wet. His two way game was pretty impressive in his time with the bruins. Need to see some offense though.

I have that doofus blocked, because it’s all Corsi this, and corsi that. I liked studnickas game last year. A rookie that pays attention to defense is kind of rare.

Going from 170 to 190 could really help win some battles in front of the net and get some offense out of him.

He’ll be 23. There’s zero sense to playing him in providence. If studnicka doesn’t make it this year, this is yet another example of Sweeney falling in love with his prospects, refusing to trade them, but also refusing to give them a chance, and blocking the ever living crap out of them. If he’s not on the bruins this year, he should be demanding a trade.

I get that but there’s just no room. They aren’t gonna scratch Coyle or Haula just to play him. The only way he gets into the lineup is if Coyle still needs time to recover from his surgery or if he comes out flashing in camp. If the coaching staff deem him to be at about the same level as Coyle or Haula, they’ll send him down because 1. hes waiver exempt and 2. he’ll be playing first line minutes in PRO instead of sitting in the pressbox with BOS

Look I’m just as excited about Stud as you are, I want him to succeed and hoping he can take the 2C spot and be effective in it. But I’m just saying what most likely will happen.

If he’s in providence, cross him off the list. Done in boston.

Only chance of him earning a roster spot is at the expense of Debrusk and Debrusk is traded or a significant injury to someone, otherwise he starts in Providence. The fact that he is waiver exempt and others competing for 14th fwd are not, along with sitting him in the press box will not help his development, pretty much dictates his early season fate.

Yeah but wagner lost that spot. If nosek plays like sh*t thats one thing, but its noseks spot to lose after he signed that contract.

I mean Wagner wasn't exactly much worse than he was when he signed his $1.35 million extension. Nosek was a depth signing whose expected to start on the 4th line, but its not like he 100% locked in no matter what happens. There's also a lot of versatility with the bottom 6 guys to move people around in order to fit Studnicka in if he forces the issue in camp.

I wouldn't say that's the "only" chance. If he has a monster camp/pre-season and is borderline pushing Coyle for 2C, then he could make the team as the 3C. Barring Coyle just tanking during pre-season or getting hurt, he'll get first crack at #2C no matter what. You're right though, odds are he starts the year in providence due to the numbers game and him not requiring waivers.

Hahahah im with ya. I like advanced stats just as much as the next guy, but i still think the eye test is the best (I remember someone used advanced stats on here and said Bjork shoulda been a selke finalist) nevertheless, I agree, a little more size, a little stronger in the lower half should do him a lot of good. The outlook of the team completely changes if he plays well and wins a spot.
