Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Ryan Strome was on pace for a 70 point season last year.
He is a UFA coming up, but cheaper than Hertl likely.
Not sure what the Rangers want to do with Zibanejad coming up as a a UFA plus having to sign Lafreniere, Fox, Kakko and Miller in the years to come. I dont see any major contracts coming off their books that they won't want to re-sign.
Right now they have $8.9M in cap space, which likely means $9.9 next year (with cap going up). Fox is likely getting a $5M raise AT LEAST, Zibanejad will want a $2.65M raise AT LEAST. That leaves $2.25M left over. Strome may want that amount increased for his next contract alone. This still does not deal with Kakko, Kraitsov, Gauthier or Georgiev bridge deals. I suppose they could let Georgiev walk and get a cheaper backup.
It looks like Strome will likely leave New York after this year, unless I am missing something.
If the Habs could re-sign him for 5 years he would be at a good age (34) for the end of a contract.
He is not great on faceoffs, which is concerning for a center, but still he apparently has more offensive upside than Dvorak. Dvorak as a 3C is a great fit.
Do the Rangers want to get something that will help them long term before Strome potentially leaves?
I think the Rangers have to throw something else in (picks) because my proposal does not come with a Strome extension prearranged.
What do people think about the values exchanged, keeping in mind either NY or MTL could lose Strome after this year if he does not re-sign with one or the other?

Rangers need an NHL center if they are moving strome.
If they make a separate deal for a C, just do Strome for a pick and cut out the pork.

Do you think Filip Chytil could step up as NY's #2C?

I haven't seen him enough to say one way or the other, but I understand Chytil has quite a bit of talent.

If you wanted to swap out Ryan Poehling for Jake Evans in the Habs trade that could work as well.
