Ya I don't think NJ is in a position to OS people. Those picks are too valuable.

I really like the offer but the contract reminds me of Victor Rask tho I think Yams will be a 50 point a year scorer during the 2020s so idk my input is mixed

Either way interesting

Any protections on the 1st

No, they can't add protections in the case of an offer sheet.

I love Yamamoto and don't want to see him go, but there's no way Edmonton can fit that cap hit in this year or next. And those picks will likely be a pretty decent consolation.

NJ must be betting that they're a playoff team this year otherwise they wouldn't make this move.

Do they though? I don't think they'll be drafting in the top five this year. Yamamoto is a GREAT piece to add to this young core.

Fair value. Luckily Hyman or Foegele could slide over to RW if need be. The 1st and 3rd could really help to get the necessary goalie, a bigger ultimate need than even Yamo playing really well.

Agreed and just to add.....Yamo is not a 5.5m player. Keep the picks and spend 5.5m elsewhere (maybe not this year)

That's right. Yamo is worth more than a 2nd, but also should be getting a 2 year bridge at under 2mil when looking at last season comparables. This would mess things up.

Metro is still a very good division and NJ has a lot of question marks, I know everybody's excited after this offseason but I would not be surprised at all if they were picking top 10 again. In a draft like this they can't afford to take that risk.

I can see them drafting 6-10, but not 1-5. I don't think NJ will be a playoff team, but I don't think they'll be far out of the wild card race. The metro is still a good division, but every team took a step back except for NJ.

I think DET, BUF, CBJ, AZ, ANA, SJ and OTT all finish worse than NJ.

Edmonton would shuffle and find a way to match a 2x$4.1mil if it was only a 2nd in compensation. Going up to the next bracket makes them more likely to take the compensation and move on (would need to clear about $2mil).

Given NJD has 7 RFAs next year and another 6 the year after with some meaningful names, I don't know if I'd want to jump into the offer sheet game.

I think I would still rather a top 10 pick this year than Yamamoto. Nemec, Slafkovsky, Miroschnichenko, Yurov, Jiricek, Kemell, Casey and a few others would all be massive gets. They'd also have decent lottery odds and potential to land one of the big 3. I wouldn't do it.
