All the Cs

Team: 2021-22 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 10, 2021
Published: Sep. 14, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
NYR gets their Cs of the future, trades MIN a stop gap top 6 C to shelter Marco Rossi for a year for an interesting B+ C prospect, NYR maintains enough cap to make a run at Eichel in season (in which case they let Zib walk in the offseason).

Looks like RT wants more than Kyrou's 2.8mill/year on a bridge, so by overpaying in the first year, NYR could potentially sign him for less in January, keeping his cap lower when they have ~17mill next season to pay Fox ~9mill and bridge Kakko. Season after that, ~13mill to pay Laf and Miller, so feasible-ish? This is for fun and thought experiments (bonuses, getting guys through waivers to move them up and down, injuries that don't go on LTIR etc. not addressed).

Wait... you're saying Gorgiev is a downgrade from Koskinen?

I've heard that Schneider is untouchable anyway. That said, I think this is closer to what the Sabres will probably get vs. some of the other things we see. Two 1sts, top prospect and a decent prospect. Not to mention you get that salary COMPLETELY off the books. Pretty solid IMO. Maybe you could get a little something extra within reason.

Sabres have no problem with salary and they need forwards, especially when trading their franchise centerman, I never said they wanted more

I guess I'm confused where this 17m is coming from from next off-season and an additional $13m the following off-season.

I'd hope he's untouchable he's got some serious upside and is super physical. I wish the oilers picked him squinty smile

Georgiev being a good goalie might be an overstatement... his sv% trend is troubling:
2018- 0.918
2019- 0.914
2020- 0.910
2021- 0.905

You need to look at the facts then. Over the past 2 years, Koskinen posted a .910 save percentage to Georgiev's .908. And Koskinen's mark was dragged down by the beginning of 20-21 when Smith was injured and Holland screwed up the backup situation repeatedly, and it meant that Koskinen had to play every game of a wicked schedule - 12 games in 24 nights traveling thousands of miles through 4 time zones - which isn't something ANY goalie can stand up under. It wasn't fair to Koskinen but Tippett had little choice but to keep throwing him over the boards, so his results were poor over that stretch. I don't fault Koskinen for that, he did his best in an impossible situation.

If you pull those 12 games out of the equation to get a look at how he performs under normal circumstances, his save percentage over the past two seasons is .916, well above Georgiev's .908.

And before you blame NYR's defense, know that Koskinen faced 32.60 shots/60 to Georgiev's 31.99 SA/60 in all situations, and 32.34 SA/60 vs Georgiev's 31.03 at 5v5. Its not quality of shots either, as Koskinen faced 8.50 HDSA/60 while Georgiev faced 7.46.

Edmonton is in Win Now mode, they aren't going to downgrade their goaltending this year. And to expect them to give up a high pick to make their team worse is crazy.

Koskinen has the 10th WORST GSAA in the league and Gorgiev's is better by a very large margin.

Normally i am in complete agreement with shibbal, but honestly i can see the sabres taking this (depending on their valuation of kravtsov). I would rather higher end young forwards, but i can get there if a right d is the bpa for the other player. No goalies or left d, please and thank you.

I would actually rather see what Khovanov turns into, given where the Wild are going to be for the next four years.

I already noted the main reason, you can chose to ignore it if you want.

No trade.
