That Marner trade is awful for the Leafs.

I doubt L.A. does that and Anaheim declines.

The Wild can't afford Marner, especially in the coming years.

Anaheim declines. They’d rather keep Terry and Comtois

It's worse for the Wild. Or did you just gloss over Marner's cap hit?

Last thing the Wild need is two wingers making roughly $20M combined. (Marner + Kaprizov)

Did u forget marner scored 94 points three years ago and was top 5 in points last year ? I guess ppl only remember what they want? Wild would take this and run

No, I didn't. And no, they wouldn't.

I'm more than aware of how good Marner is as a player.

I simply do not care.

His current cap hit destroys whatever worth he brings on the ice when coupled with another winger who is likely going to cost $9M+ on their next contract in their own right. On a team that has enough cap issues as it is, and will have dead cap's of $12M, $14M and $14M for the next 3 years after this season.

Having $20M tied up into 2 players, who're both wingers, is economically unfeasible until the Parise/Suter buyouts go back down to a more manageable $1.6M per season after 2025.

So no, it's not a good trade for the Wild.

No thanks from Minnesota's perspective. Marner's is so awful in the playoffs and just disappear, much less Minnesota doesn't need another Winger much less expensive one.

Beyond crappy proposal by @Nowah49 of Minnesota's again, no disrespect . But next time I see a fair sided proposal of Minnesota by yours will be the 1st one

Kaprizov was top 8 in NHL last year, so no Minnesota really doesn't considering Minnesota gets the awful end here, and Winger isn't a need at all!

I wasn't talking about what makes sense for the Wild. I know it would be bad for them. I was looking at it from Toronto's perspective. It wouldn't make sense to trade a Top 5 RW in the league (I criticize him a lot, but in the regular season he is that) for that return. Yes, he has a high cap hit. But if this were the value coming back, it would be far more logical to just keep him. Let's just put it this way: The trade is bad for both teams.

He most def wasn’t a top 8 player last year LMAO. I Can name at least 20 players who had a better 2021 campaign than him. Maybe top 30 but no way he’s even close to being top 8

I guess I’m the lone wild fan who would take this deal in a heartbeat if not for the suter/parise buyouts. I’d decline because the cap would be atrocious, but value wise, that’s really not a lot for a player of Marners skill level.

Yeah, but the buyouts make it barely possible. Plus the fact that he was playing with elite Auston Matthews at C….

Yeah it’s def not a good move with the buyouts. It’s not a glaring need and we’d have no chance at being competitive, but just purely from a value exchange, the wild make out better here IMO.

Marner is elite with or without Matthews. There may be some degree of inflated numbers, but he’s very much a high end 1st line winger regardless.
