retooling

Created by: Eli
Team: 2021-22 Washington Capitals
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 15, 2021
Published: Sep. 15, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I posted the first trade on the Buffalo side, and a Buffalo fan called it an overpay.

Doubt Vancouver moves Quinn, but Lapierre could be a #1C some day, so the value is there.

Not sure if this team is much better in the short term, but I think it's as good, and it's younger.

"No doubt Vancouver moves Hughes" ahahahahahahah ok. Saying Lapierre could be a #1C one day is just making stuff up tears of joy Dude fell in the draft for a reason. The Buffalo trade makes zero sense from a rebuild standpoint too lol. Not a single draft pick coming back to them.

"Doubt." Not "no doubt." Opposites.

Lapierre fell from a top five rating because of injuries in his draft year that kept him to two goals and kept him out of the playoffs. In his post draft year he got eight goals and 31 points in 21 games, plus five goals and 12 points in 9 playoff games. Regular season and playoffs he set personal bests for points/game at the junior level. He's probably gonna be good, again. NJ fans have one of his linemates pencilled in for a top six spot this year, after a pretty similar performance. So, yes, possible future #1C. Down from definite, pre-injury, but way up from draft day 2020.

It's a lot of good players and prospects, but they have a lot left. By building a trade without any picks, they can make more moves. It sounds like that's not Hughes. Is anyone else good available?

Sabres will most definitely decline. Look at the potential line. IMO they would need to move most of the players before the season started.
Riat and Gersich do not add much to the value and could be removed without affecting the trade.
Skinner - Kuznetsov - Oshie this line would revive Skinner and would most likely get over 80 goals
Olofsson - Cozens - Sprong a good second line Sprong will be a great addition and he is young
Asplund - Mittelstadt - Thompson Buffalo best line the last 20 of 20-21 season the best third line Buffalo has had in a decade
Bjork - Girgensons - Dowd the best fourth line Buffalo has had in a decade
Dahlin - Schultz, Justin will make Rasmus MUCH better.
Butcher - Jokiharju a solid pairing, Butcher adds the offense and Jokiharju the defense
Bryson - Miller a better third pairing than most teams.
GK very weak the Sabres need to add here if they would want to turn the season around.

Johnson, Brent decent RHD prospect fills the gaping hole for Buffalo

The QMJHL is arguable one of the worse junior leagues compared to others. You can't just base a players potential off strictly points either. If NJ fans have Mercer in a top 6 role... they have some holes to fill on the team lol.
