I would suggest swapping Ferrall with one of Struble or Harris as Montreal likely is not moving another young center so soon, especially one who just put up 100+ points last season.

No thanks, mainly because we won’t afford to resign him, and we have Hyman. I really like Kaprizov, but we can’t afford having him long term. Also, I’m super excited about Bourgault, and I think he’s going to be an awesome player!

The value is fine if you switch out Farrell with one of Struble/Harris. However, the habs can’t afford to extend Dumba, so this wouldn’t really work. I’d be interested in Dumba as a rental, although I don’t think the habs can swing it cap-wise unless someone gets injured before the deadline and doesn’t get back until the playoffs.

Good feedback, thanks. Wasn’t sure myself and just piggy packed off another ACGM but that makes sense. The prospect could def be adjusted.

Yeah, I was hoping with retention and Kassian coming back, it would be more palatable as an “all in” type move, but I can respect the decline

Farrell could def be swapped. I wasn’t sure on MTL prospects, so I just referenced another proposal for the framework. Def get the cap issues.

In terms of straight value I'd do it from an Oilers perspective. Looking bigger picture though the Oilers weakness is still the defensive side of the puck so if we were to go all in it would be better spent on a true starter or an upgrade on defense.

Yeah. If someone like Ben Chiarot got a long-term injury, then I think the habs would be interested in Dumba (50% retained) for a 1st and a 3rd. (No extension)

I don’t think Farrell will be a C at the NHL level, but I agree that he’s definitely a unique player in Montréal’s prospect pool that they’ll want to hold on to.

Actually there is a way the Habs can swing it, it just requires letting Lehkonen, Armia and Byron go next offseason. TBH though I don't think MB has any plans on moving Byron.

Hughes is worth more than that for sure.

How would you adjust? That trade is completely just a thought experiment anyway, so I’m curious on how you think it needs to change.

With that much firepower, who needs defense?! cool

Add 3 1st round picks and maybe Vancouver would consider.

Do you actually think the delta between Hughes and Brodin is 3 1sts or are you just being hyperbolic to prove a point?

I think that would be the asking price from the Canucks. Hughes provides a lot of offense and that would be hard to replace.

At least a first round pick added, and a decent prospect instead of Ryker Evans (who I don't think many people have heard of) and Nico Sturm

Evans was drafted 35th OA last year. If you know who he is and just don’t care for him, then sure he could be adjusted. But the argument of “people haven’t heard of him” is pretty dang flimsy, and also really only represents yourself since you cannot speak for others’ knowledge of prospects.

Needing a 1st for Hughes is reasonable. For sure can concede there.

I guess my question is, in the hypothetical world where Hughes was traded, would VAN generally prefer all futures or at least one high end NHL player (in this case Brodin)? I’ve seen VAN fans say “we’d need a top pairing LHD” and also “we need all futures.”
