Likely locks As of Now

Created by: eternalrisk
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 15, 2021

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This can and will go multiple ways with forwards and injuries coming in. Another look at the most likely locks. Even these not might not make opening night. Putting Brooks as the 13 lock for now as he won't pass waivers most likely and he is a Center. If they want 3rd line shutdown against top lines, most likely this (maybe Kerfoot on the wing and Mikhevey on other wing side or 4th line). Guess we are hoping for Bunting and Ritchie to work on left wing in top 6. Ho-sang can be wild card too for top 6-9. If you are waiver exempt and don't go really crazy in pre-season you are not making the club on opening night most likely. Either way looking forward to see how things shake out. $125 000 extra in cap space if Engvall is in some other team. Lots of options but could lose some during waiver cuts but should still have options left. This team seems better balanced for success, let us see if they can get there some how. At end of the day, just get it done and play the way is needed for playoff type games and/or win a series clinching game already. Mental kill not there. It's like they don't know that series ain't over until you win the clinching game.

Lmao no way Kerfoot starts on the fourth and Mikheyev is played above him. Mikheyev is in absolutely no position to demand more ice time after that laughable season

Brooks is 100% not a lock as the 13th forward. He will have to earn that by playing better than Engvall. Every single team has players the want to keep and there are more talented players than Brooks that will be put on waivers, so your argument is flawed. Ho-Sang won't be more than a player that likely plays for the Marlies. I only see him playing NHL games if he firstly impresses during camp so that he earns a contract, and then we have injuries to Marner, Nylander or Kase he could potentially slide in to one of those roles. Other than that, it is hard to see him playing games for the Leafs. Your lineup is wrong as well, Kerfoot will not be the 3C (Kämpf) and Rielly plays with Brodie not Holl.

This will most likely be our lineup if there are no more trades:

Ritchie-Matthews-Marner
Bunting-Tavares-Nylander
Kerfoot-Kämpf-Kase
Mikheyev-Spezza-Simmonds

Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-Holl
Sandin-Dermott

Campbell
Mrazek

Engvall as the healthy scratch.

I predict you'll see Nylander on the left side of Tavares and Kase in the top 6, pushing Bunting or Ritchie down. I could even see a world where both Kerfoot and Nylander are on the left side of the top 6 and Bunting + Ritchie as the 3rd line wingers. Tough checking line? 2 guys to fit right in.

Ritchie has been brought in to play with Matthews and Marner to be their protection and hopefully put up some reasonable amount of points.
