Draisatl

Created by: HOCKEYBOY448
Team: 2021-22 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 16, 2021
Published: Sep. 16, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Forward core is still pretty solid. The offer isn’t trash as some will probably say. Definitely solves the center issue so long as Mika and Fox don’t ask for $10 mil apiece. Crazy enough we could do this and not be in a world of hurt.

Does NYR really want to do something like this? Seems like they are better off keeping their young pieces.

I don't imagine EDM turns this down, but who knows.

I don't see Oilers accepting as Leon still has four years left on a team friendly contract.
If the Rangers do this, realistically they can only resign one of Fox and Zibs next season,

EDM would be stupid not to take that deal. If you're going to offer that you might as well go after Eichel.

Assuming Mika doesn’t want $10 mil or more though. We can’t afford to give him anything over $9 mil with Fox likely taking at least $9 mil. Either way we’re in a crap position and I’d take Draisatl at $8.5 mil for the next 4 years over at $9.5-10 mil for the next 7-8 years.

Yeah Eichel is not better than Draisatl to me. And Draisatl isn’t hurt.

Gonna be ruined by the cap anyway so it doesn’t matter when the belief is we need to contend.

Need a center upgrade. Ownership wants to contend and this gives us a better chance. Plus we’d be struggling to pay them with the other contracts on the books once they’re RFA’s so we get some cost certainty here.

Yeah Drai is way better than Eichel. He’s a top 4 centre in the league.

Value wise it’s certainly enough but problem is Edmonton is in win now mode and this trade sets them back in that aspect so they decline but appreciate the reasonable offer.

This much I figured. Just took a far more legitimate crack at what it’d cost to get one of the best centers in the league.

Not going to deny that Leon is underpaid for what he delivers, and the return won't make up for his production. At least not right away.

But it does give EDM cap flexibility for a couple of years, gives them a younger starting goaltender, two great forward prospects and a good D prospect. Plus 2 first round picks. Maybe if Miller played the right side it would be a slam dunk. For those reasons I don't think EDM immidiately turns the deal down.

I mean one of Lundkvist or Schneider could be subbed for Miller. They’re both right side guys with top 4 upside. My goal was to make the offer something you’d have to at least think about.

The Oilers likely finish out of the playoffs without Draisaitl. Yea, maybe the offer is fair, but it's awful message to send to your own players and fans, that we aren't going to win (or do well) the season even though the club has McDavid, and signed four UFAs to apparently make them stronger for the next few years....Hyman RNH, Barrie and Ceci.

Drai is horrific defensively and gets a lot of help from McDavid. Eichel is good defensively and doesn't need anyone to push play. I'd take EIchel.

Like you have read, we decline. It’s a solid offer, but we are not rebuilding at all. We are also trying to contend especially with McDavid on the team, and signing some UFAs. If I was to accept this trade, I would want Nils Lundkvist over K’Andre Miller. If you look at our prospect pool, we have… left side: Philip Broberg, Dmitri Samorukov, Markus Niemelainen, Matthew Cairns, Luca Munzenberger etc. On the right side we have: Evan Bouchard, Michael Kesselring, Filip Berglund, Philip Kemp etc. All of them are really good prospects, but as you can see, we are way better on the left for defence prospects than the right. Yes, Samorukov is good on the right, but I don’t know if Tippett would ever play him there.

You are entitled to your opinion and I am to mine. I prefer Draisatl to Eichel and you don’t that’s fine.

Appreciate the response. I was simply trying to show we have the pieces to make such a move that is fair in value for both sides, without crippling our organizational depth. Goal here was to spark a decent conversation which I feel like I was able to do so as opposed to the normal arguing we see on here.

Really solid offer, I agree Lundkvist would probably be the better option than Miller. It's crazy to think team can offer that much high end talent and not be hurting that much in the future. Have to hand it to the rangers scouting staff and drafting team.

You definitely did that! This was a one that had to make me think, and to try and not repeat someone’s comment. This is probably one of the most fair Draisaitl proposals I have seen on this site…. Good job man, you shouldn’t get any hate on this one.

Good job making a fair trade
Much much better than some Rangers trading scraps for elite centers
