he might be, hard to say given that poehling hasnt played much in mtl and had to deal with a concussion that through his timeline out of whack. I think its fair to assume Thomas would be the better player but is he a first round pick + better, probably not.

That’s an overpayment for Thomas. He may only be 22, but he doesn’t have a contract, and only put up 12 points last season and only played 33 out of 56 games. Christian Dvorak is already a good 2C for Montreal and they have great depth for wing so they don’t need to pay more for a 3rd line forward than they payed for a 2C that can drive a line.
Just the first would be fair. Poeling is also still young and shouldn’t be given up on this early. Then Kulak is a top 4 defenseman for the Habs so they wouldn’t toss him in either, and even if they did, there’s no chance they retain 800k when they don’t have much cap anyway.
This is an easy no on the Habs side of the deal.
But, it’s is Marc Bergivan so I guess I wouldn’t be surprised seeing this.

i do think it's an overpayment but sometimes you need to overpay to get who you whant and having a center line of suz, dvorak and thomas for multiple years to come is more important then keeping kulak, a first and poelhing. they're all expendables that can easily replaced so i wouldn't care much about loosing them. and for the cap hit it's easily manageable.

yeah i agree with you it's an overpayment but i do not think we need those player and that having thomas solidifie our third line is more important. and for the first i figured we needed to entice them with something importante not only b trade pieces

i agree losing kulak doesnt concern me in the slightest. For sure gotta pay the price to bring in talent, my hesistation is even with the young core being another year older does that habs team compete for a playoff spot in 2022-23 or are they another bubble team with that first being a top 10 pick.

i do think that with thomas they can compete for a playoff spot and we know that they're build for the playoff so anything can happen after that. and i chose the 2023 pick so to give us some marge of error. because i really dont think mtl is gonna be a non playoof team by that time

fair enough. i dont think it was the better choice then giving this year just because this year's is more uncertain. I do think thomas has potential to move into the 2c spot and Dvorak would be one of the better 3c's in the league. Could set them up nicely.

Blues will find a way to keep Thomas. Not worth losing him for that package when Poehling hasn't shown anything and that pick might make an impact 4 yrs from now. Team is getting old, need young impact players like Thomas. I doubt he's available at all (without forcing the issue with an offer sheet).
