You'd need to retain the extra mil on Zucc I think for Carolina to have interest.

I’m assuming you say the because of the retention, and if that’s the case, I’d ask how much you think Zona can get for Schmaltz without retention?

It won’t be this rich of a package, so you do have to wonder about the delta there. And depending on that, it’s a question of, would you pay approx 6.5M total for whatever that trade delta is? It’s worth considering from a theoretical standpoint.

Yeah it is a little much, I was also thinking about Toffoli from MTL if they decide to move on from one of their wingers.

Yes the retention is exactly why

Why would they not be able to get a 1st and B+ prospect for him without retention?

That's way too much value for Schmaltz. And Zuccarello at 4M is a valuable asset, worth more than a 4th.

I think they maybe could, although that’s def the ceiling and not likely what they get IMO.

But that’s not my point. This package is more than that. In this case, its Talbot and a 2nd. Would you pay 6.5M for Talbot and a 2nd? Zona maybe wouldn’t, but my entire point is that the retention itself has value. And for a team that doesn’t need the entire cap, using that as leverage should not be an auto-dismissal.

I think you really undervalue Schmaltz as a player, I think he is definitely worth that package without retention. It's also not about the cap space, it's about the money spent on a player not on your team and for Arizona that is very relevant

Bc he isnt really a C. The value i see for schmaltz is a 1st and a 3rd imo. A little less than dvorak due to the contract differences and the fact that dvorak is a real C.

Disagree. In fact imo its a bit rich of a package, take out tlabot and i think youre at fair value.

Schmaltz is marginally better than Dvorak though

Maybe offensively, but i thought that canceled out as dvorak is better defensively.

To each their own, I'm personally taking Schamltz over Dvorak 9/10 times

And i would counter by saying you’re overvaluing him. He’s scored 20 goals once and 50 points once, which both occurred 5 years ago. He’s under 40% on draws over his career, so he’s probably better suited on wing. I know he’s got some skills and AZ probably hasn’t been the best representation of what he’s capable of, but 5.8M is a good chunk of change.

How many teams would even realistically take him on, let alone for a 1st, 2nd, B prospect and starting goalie? I’ve seen a lot of Schmaltz over the past couple of years and i do like him as a player, I just dont agree that he’s worth this package.

IMO Carolina should definitely consider if they lose Nino or Trocheck to free agency next year.
