Is Carrier a negative value asset? I don’t know why it costs a third to give him up, I think he’s pretty fairly paid for what he brings to the team.

I don't think he is, but a lot of people on this site think he has negative value. If Reaves can get a 3rd, it's tough to see anyone having negative value with a contract below 2 million.

Yeah, as a Wings fan I see people valuing Namestnikov at around a 2nd-4th, and I’d argue Carrier is more valuable than Vladdy. Maybe physical players are less valued than skill players, but even then it shouldn’t be negative (as your Reaves example showed).
