Eller

Created by: Eli
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 16, 2021
Published: Sep. 16, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Seen a few Eller to Leafs threads, here, and a lot of Rielly to WSH ideas.

In this version, the Caps give the Leafs half of their remaining cap space. That comes out to 250k.

And they throw in a pick and a prospect.

No way Caps do this. Eller is a huge piece for them. Caps already have a pure offensive, terrible defensive player in Carlson.

According to Evolving Wild's RAPM chart he's even worse than Carlson defensively, which is saying a lot. Plus, Reilly is a UFA after this season, so you'll be spending $8M-9M to keep him. Pass.

Okay. Thanks.

I thought Reilly sounded like a fun rental option at 3LD, but I agree he is not a long term need. I'm very optimistic that McMichael can play a top nine center spot this year, and while Engvall isn't half as good as Eller, he's more comfortable switching to wing, and he's younger and cheaper. Next summer I'd look at giving Rielly's cap space to the goalies on some mid-term bridge deals.

But if Rielly is that bad at defense, then maybe put the prospect and pick on the other side. Or, like you said, maybe just hold off on him, unless he offers a huge discount next summer.

You have yourself a god dang deal lol. Seriously, I'd make this trade from the leafs perspective but I'm not sure it would be enough for your caps. I could see Rielly signing an extension with Washington for a reasonable price unless he has a historic season or something but IMO your caps would value Eller and Jensen more as they should. For us this solves our 3rd line center debate and strengthens our RHD. Rielly would leave a hole on our legt side that I don't think Sandin os ready to fill and Muzzin has injury issues, however, he's gone after this season anyways so we'll have to figure it out regardless. I think Morgan would bolster your blueline for a cup run at least this year and would be a great addition as long as you don't pair him with Carlson.
