Description
Just an idea to take a flyer on Tarasenko. if his value has dropped as far as it seems to have. He could fill Rakell’s spot for a little bit after he’s traded early in season. If Tarasenko shows he’s still productive ANA retains more and sells high at a lower cap hit in off season or at next TDL.

Blues are in a position where they may not have a choice. If he was worth more they would have gotten it already. If they don’t move him they’ll be over the cap when they sign Thomas.

Entirely reasonable and well-thought-out from my point of view. Of course, it depends how far Tarasenko's value has fallen and how badly St. Louis needs to dump cap.

1- Heh. The Blues are in a position where they do have the choice. Army isn't going to hand over Tarasenko AND 4M for peanut shells. He'll start the season with the Blues and score up his value if needed.

2- Nope. Sunny will start the season on LTIR.

People don’t understand LTIR on here because capfriendly made it so simple in AGMs when it’s actually very complicated. Starting a player on LTIR means the blues won’t be able to accrue cap space while he’s there. So when he comes off they’re still in the same spot of being over the cap and at max the Blues will get 2.75M in relief at that time barring they maximize the LTIR relief perfectly.

As for the retention, STL is gonna have to retain or fork out a significant pick to move Tarasenko it seems. You make reference to $4M in retention but fail to mention the $11M in cap they save.

Yeah, I'm fully aware of how LTIR works. If worse comes to worse, they can buy more time to make a cap-cutting move, is my point.

Dude, a 3rd doesn't even get 4M in retention. So basically Tarasenko and a chunk of the retention for free. Yeah, this notion that Army HAS to do something is just not paying attention. Tarasenko does NOT have negative value.

Dude, the blues SAVE $11M in cap. Quit talking about retention and ignoring the cap space they gain. Also who’s says Tarasenko at 7.5M doesn’t have negative value? SEA passed on him and he hasn’t been traded yet. Signs are pointing toward him having very limited value if any at all.

1- That's easy for you to say. This trade offer would get nowhere, obviously. But everyone can have fun imagining Army goes over a barrel.

2- Oi vey...

You have yet to come up with a legit argument against the trade. Your only argument is $4M in retention while you ignore the $11M it saves STL who is in a cap bind and a possible OS target should a team decide to step up to the plate.

If the Stars were to do that he’d have to be on a 50+ point pace.

Yes. That’s the point. He shows he’s healthy and still productive and getting him at $3M to replace Radulov. It’s all hypothetical but I think it’s worth the shot for the ducks.

Really now? What do you call this?
