Wheeler

Description
Montreal some how still has lots of cap space. So they are able to take Wheeler's full contract. Also when they put Weber's contract on LTIR they will get more space. So Montreal might be a place that Wheeler would want to waive his NMC to. They are lined up to make a run for a Stanley Cup. They have an abundance of RW's. Caufield, Gallagher, Anderson, Hoffman, Armia. So with Gallagher making the most and with Anderson and him playing the same style of game Montreal sheds that contract. They do not have hardly any centre's that could fill in to the 2nd line role. Wheeler could do that for Montreal. Dvorak is going to be the #1 centre but after that they have Paquette, Suzuki (who might be able to fill that 2nd line centre) and Evans. So Wheeler helps the Habs down the middle. When it comes to Drouin it seems like he can't handle playing in Montreal so Bergevin sheds that contract as well. Yes he would eat some of the money but it's still better than paying the whole contracts. Also Montreal would also get a big tough young defenseman in Stanley that if Weber is around the rink could mentor him. He might just need that because he won't get that in Winnipeg. Also Winnipeg has a highly touted LHD defenseman in Heinola that needs to play. Stanley gets in the way of that. Niku is just a throw in so that he can hopefully get a shot with another organization.

When it comes to Winnipeg. They need a player that can go to the net and be a pest there. Gallagher is a perfect fit for that. Also him and Scheifele are buds so that might be an easy and nice fit. Also Gallagher is a right hand shot so that also helps Winnipeg on the right side. Gallagher does have a questionable contract but he is only 29 and $6.5M is alot easier to handle than $8.25M for a 35 year old. Drouin is a huge gamble but if he is able to play with another french speaking player in PLD maybe that will help boost his confidence. Also Drouin and Ehlers played a season together in junior in Halifax and I believe are still friends. It might be a good fit for him. It's worth a shot.

The Copp trade happens because of cap issues. Also Copp is a UFA at the end of the year and I have a feeling that he will get bigger money out there when he is able to sign with any team. So we trade him to Arizona for some depth pieces and a draft pick.

Show the Habs side...cannot believe they would be able to fit Wheeler + retaining Gallagher

I can't see Winnipeg having any interest in the Arizona trade and zero chance the Jets move Wheeler and get stuck with Drouin and Gallagher's contract in the process.

I doubt the Jets move Wheeler, but if they did they should be seeking futures or at least trying to make the team better after the move. Otherwise it's pointless.

We could afford Wheeler but won't give up Gally to get him. We would probably rather give up a 1st. Besides that Suzuki is the 1C, Dvorak right now is 2C, if Wheeler were to come over he would be the 2C and Dvorak moved to 3C which would give us a much deeper lineup.

posted. go check it out. They put Weber on LTIR and Byron is injured for the first few months. So if they put him on LTIR as well they could still add. I kept Byron on the active roster showing they still have $1.7M in cap space with a 23 man roster.

Why wouldn't you give up Gallagher? Don't him and Anderson play the same style of game? Anderson is cheaper and younger than Gallagher. I don't think Bergevin would trade Hoffman since he just signed him so he must have wanted him. Also Bergevin just re-signed Armia and Armia is a great role player type who can move up and down the lineup. The Jets were stupid to give him up in the first place. Also Caufield is untouchable. That kid is the future of the Habs.

No they don't, Anderson's game is all about speed off the rush and taking the puck to the net. Anderson does forecheck and go to the dirty areas but he doesn't stay there and is never going to score 30+ goals a season. Besides that Gallagher brings so much more to the team than just his on ice game. He will be the next captain once Weber retires.

Edit *** our most likely wingers to be traded are Lehkonen, Drouin, Byron and Anderson in that order. Our least likely to be traded are Caufield, Gallagher, Toffoli, Hoffman and Armia in that order.
