I was going to say that Habs-Sabres trade was an overpay for Miller then I saw PLD added to it with retention and thought that was an underpay for both them retained lol. I think Habs need to add a 1st to that.

A healthy Eichel would be nice, but there is zero chance Winnipeg overpays that drastically for a player with a serious neck injury that may never be the same if he does play again.

So exchanging a star center who will play a full season for a guy who may not play even half a season, plus mortgaging a substantial part of the future, is "going all in"?!?

Dubois isn't high value now, which is why WPG should just keep him, but if they are bringing in Eichel and Buffalo doesn't want him, his trade value is probably around there. Especially if Poehling looks good this season.

Idk man.. I feel like he could land at least a 1st, but Poehling's play could for sure have an impact.

I don’t disagree with anything you said, except maybe PLD being a “star”. He very well could become one, and has the skill to, but right now he’s played closer to a very good 2C then a star center. Maybe I’m nit picking slightly but really he gets heavily sheltered offensive minutes to put up slightly worse Ryan O’Reilly offensive numbers.

If you gave MTL Dubois even at Full cap i think you're looking at much more

Dubois and Jokiharu
for
Anderson(they can keep or flip Anderson to expand their return even more)
Poehling
1st in 2023 top 10 protected
2nd in 2022

BUF return would be
Perfetti
Anderson
Torgersson
Poehling
1st round pick in 2022
1st round pick in 2023
2nd round pick in 2022

It would make Duchene 3 way trade look small by comparison
WPG gets Eichel who is an upgrade on Dubois
MTL gets its French Center to replace Kotkanemi as a clear upgrade (Dvorak replaces Danault)

No doubt. He still has value based on potential and RFA status, but WPG isn't getting back near what they paid for him (therefore neither is Buffalo). Replace Poehling with a 1st and it is still reasonable.

Again, they shouldn't trade him for that reason. He's probably going to rebound. So wait and see.

I get it because that's probably what it would take but I think that's just to much in my opinion. I think Perfetti can be a 1st line center and PLD has shown he can be one already (not last year).
