Why are the sabres giving up the first + when they take back 2x more bad salary than they give Nashville for nearly the same amount of time. Skinner isnt that bad. Nashville pays here

Because NSH is taking the longest, most expensive, contract, and getting by far the worst player? I don't think the draft pick compensation makes sense (I can't see BUF making a 1st part of the return), and don't think either team considers something around this proposal, but it's a unique idea.

This is a terrible trade for Nashville. Johansson and Skinner both make less than Skinner and are both still good players, just overpaid, Skinner at this point is a fairly bad player. Nobody would really blink at Duchenne or RyJo if they made 5.5 million. If you take 2.5 million off Skinner's contract, everyone still hates him at 6.5.

Nashville would be crazy to do this trade

Skinner isnt that bad, Buffalo has 0 interest. Its 1 extra year and Nashville get the cap relief for almost the entirety. Thats horrific for Buffalo

I could see the logic now, but I suspect Nashville is very much on the "why bother". They don't need the cap space now as they suck and I suspect aren't trying to compete for a couple years. Duchene and ryjo are simply more useful over the next couple years. In like 2 years they should focus on what they'll do with them.

Skinner is arguably on the worst contract in the NHL (Bobrovsky is the only one you could argue is worse). BUF gets a couple solid vets to help them make the cap floor, and they'll both be off the books by the time BUF starts looking to compete again. NSH is getting stuck with a $9M healthy scratch for 6 years.

I'm not saying BUF necessarily should do it, but depending on what sort of draft pick/futures package they have to send to NSH here (I still don't think a 1st would be part of the return - more likely a collection of later picks) it's less awful than their current situation.

They arent better than Skinner and the Sabres are above the cap floor, even if that was their concern they can keep the 1st and 2nd and sign a scrub. Theres literally no defending how bad it is for Buffalo

Wow. That's quite the hot take. I don't think we're going to reach an understanding here.

You got quite the Buffalo tinted glasses if you don't think Duchenne and Johansson are better than Skinner

Hard pass from buffalo. The play here is to let skinner do whatever he can do here for a few years and buy him out. Retaining, taking back two guys that are both overpaid with term, adding a huge amount of salary, and adding a first is more than doubling down on stupid. Let skinner play for 2-3 years and buy him out. Hes never playing his way to being worth his contract, even with any kind of reasonable retention, a buyout is the only way out. there is no reason to pay the stupidity tax here.

Yeah, the retention on Skinner makes it brutal for BUF (the original proposal was Duchene & Johansen for Skinner, FLA's 1st, a 2nd, & a 5th, with no retention on any of the players).

Brutal for Buffalo regardless of Skinners effectiveness on the ice. Buffalo pays 84M to Nashville's 42M and give up a 1st round pick.

Originally there was no retention so read the above comments with that in mind
