I don't disagree but Niku is better at moving the puck, this creates a more balanced D specifically by taking some of the pressure off of Petry as being the only puck moving D man.

Kulak isn’t bad either, don’t know what Habs fans doesn’t like about Kulak. He’s decent and rarely has a bad game

Not bad is not the same as good though, I like Kulak but he is a depth D man on this team.

Really? 54P 76GP, 12P 20GP, 14P 18GP in the AHL over the last 3 years says different. Sure his NHL numbers aren't great but he is after all only 24 years old and D men take longer to develop than forwards anyway. He is too good for the AHL and is only not on the Jets roster due to their depth at RHD. Montreal does not have that problem we desperately need NHL ready RHD and good RHD prospects. At the very least he pushes Kulak to be more offensive.

Niku shoots left but is comfortable and prefers to play on his offhand.

Kulak is also nearly useless on the right side.

What do you think he’d cost from Winnipeg?

I didn’t see that.

Although if that is the case, that likely means he’s going back to Europe, since otherwise they would’ve traded him.

Nope he said in a statement that Europe is not in his plans right now and the Hets and him just mutually agreed to terminate his contract.

Okay. I don’t think the habs would be the right fit from Niku’s perspective then. Since they would probably only sign him if he plays on a PTO and outperforms Wideman.

I think he could easily out play Wideman and even if he doesn't he will at least push Wideman and Kulak to be better. Nothing like a young kid coming in and trying to take your job.

I agree, and that’s why it’d be great from a Montréal perspective. However from Niku’s perspective he could get a chance to be Montréal’s 7th D or be guaranteed a top 6 spot on another team like Arizona.

See I think he has the potential to steal the 3RD spot, he is exactly the type of D man we need. Unfortunately I don't think MB will even consider it.

MTL made it to the Stanley Cup final because we had a physical defense. Niku isn’t that, yes we need a puckmoving dmen but I’m sure the Habs organization trust more Wideman and Kulak then Niku. I personally wouldn’t mind, it wouldn’t hurt but I can’t see Wideman or Niku outplay Kulak

Well Erik Gustafsson isn’t a physical defenseman. But yeah, Bergevin isn’t going to add Niku after giving up on Mete.

Yes and that was super dumb when you had a guy like Romanov sitting
Ducharme might be the worse NHL coach

Playoffs show Kulak isnt trusted outside the 7th/8thD role
He had all the time to step up take a full time job but hasnt
That said he's overachieved as a depth guy when needed

Niku is in almost the same position as Kulak just younger with more time to smooth out his rough edge's
I think those 2 competing with Wideman for the 3rd spot gives us the best from all and at worst Niku or Wideman become 1st call up

I think Niku though with Chiarot could work out Personally as they have Chemistry and
Chiarot knows this system better then almost any player making this transition likely easier
At worst he goes to the AHL and Wideman/Kulak are on their toes.
