Schrodingers hockey team

Created by: MTLaveragefan
Team: 2021-22 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 20, 2021
Published: Sep. 20, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This team will either be fkn amazing and surprise us all...

OR

Be the most overrated and the biggest disappointment I've ever witness.

important factors:

- how important was Danault? Can Evans replace him?
- how important was Weber?
- Will Caufield live up to his sophomore year?
- Is Toffoli a one-hit wonder?
- Will Drouin explode?
- will Hoffman fix our lamentable PP?

Here is my starting line-up.

I see Poehling forcing MB's hand.

I see a rotation of the D like in the playoffs.

I think they will send Norlinder back to Europe.

Playoffs,

I believe they will make it... by being top 3 in the Atlantic (hot take, I know).

Weber will pull a Kucherov.

Weber's done, he won't pull a Kuch, i guess he'd push Kulak out if he did though

Danault had i think 10 points in 52 games his sophmore year before breaking out going from 4th line wing to 3rd line center where he broke out with Pacioretty-Shaw finishing his 3rd year as 1st line Center.
Evans had i think 13 points in 49 games his sophmore year as 4th line Center/3rd line Winger with a 50% FO win rate to Danaults 47%.

Will Evans be the next Danault?
Sounds like Will Danault be able to replace Desharnais to me

Weber returning i'd say wouldnt happen
But then MTL and Price pulled the wool over Seattle's eye's embellishing an injury to protect him
After that who knows really how far they'd go given Weber was also exposed that draft.
Did they embellishing things to for the same reasons ?

I gotta go with yes i think they would after Kucherov mocking them after the Cup
Not Naming a Captain Interim feeds fuel to this Speculation as obviously MTL atleast believes theres a small chance

Flip Toffoli and Hoffman as if Poehling Playing 3rd C he'll need the added Speed and ability to cover him defensively as he gets caught flat footed a lot.(speed issue he's more of a Lucic then a Anderson)
Toffoli worked wonders with our rookies last year who all overachieved. Putting him with Poehling only makes sense.
Hoffmans a hired gun and a hard working goal scorer but he's not a mentor nor can he cover things defensively to make up for Poehlings lack of speed/back checking ability.(he's great on the forecheck though)

“I see a rotation of the D like in the playoffs.”
Absolutely no chance they do that for a full 82 game season. It works well in the playoffs, but you can’t focus that hard on matchups when you’re playing a different team every night.

“Weber will pull a Kucherov.”
Aside from the fact that it’s been all but officially stated that Weber is retired, have you stopped and though for a minute about the consequences of this? If Weber is able to play in the NHL again, the habs are on the hook for $7.8 million for the next four years. It’s extremely obvious that this team’s future has been built without Weber in mind, and they can’t function if Weber were to return.

the whole season is quite simple. Carey Price. if he can play 50 games or so at a 918 save percentage or so we have a very good chance at making the playoffs if not (either he plays bad or gets a major injury) we miss the playoffs.

id love a top 5 pick or the playoffs but with Montreal and its stupidity they'll miss the playoffs and pick 11 meaning the pick goes to Arizona and we get Carolinas pick which will be 32 overall because kk puts up 100 points next year(partly joking here maybe more like 60 but that would be ****ing hilarious)

If Weber is able to return for the playoffs, he will. Copious amounts of duct tape if necessary.
The league and fans will hum and haw, but their hands are tied because a precedent has been set.

Weber retires at the end of this season regardless, (unless Nashville prevents it by taking his contract and putting him on LTIR).

everyone said they were a team built for playoffs, its a matter of making it there. After their losses this summer I cant see them making it at all, especially with Boston and Tampa back in the division

Again I very, very much doubt that Weber is able to play in the playoffs. Bergevin has literally said that he likely will never play again. If the plan was for Weber to return in next year’s playoffs, he wouldn’t put so much scrutiny on himself by using those words. Also, why would Shea just give up on $6 million by retiring?

Idk not to be a Dobby the house elf Downer but I think it's just going to be a rough season that ends in a lot of soul searching which will be for the best

It's time to end the Bergevin era

Half Habs fans like me doesn’t think they’ll make it with FLO TB TOR BOS back in the Atlantic. So calm down saying only Habs fan’s overrates them. Of course a lot will think they are good, they are not technically but they often find a way to play better then they actually are

You are right, if they thought Weber could comeback, they wouldn’t have sign Hoffman and resigned Armia. Suzuki could be offersheet next year

MB has used qualifiers. He hasn't come right out and said Weber will never play again. Truth is, he can't know unless it's something irreperable.
Multiple nagging injuries isn't definitive. Some surgery, therapy, and rehab, could see him feeling well enough that he comes to the team with his doctor and says, "I'm healthy enough to play".

You can't have a "plan" for it, at least publicly, only 2 people can truly know how probable it is to play out that way, MB and Weber.
All I'm saying is don't discount the possibility.

It's true that he might not retire officially, but I don't think the money will factor much into that decision. LTIR isn't a "sit home and twiddle your thumbs" thing. You still have to work. He may prefer to just move on, get a big ceremony and maybe even take a job in the organization.

If it wasn’t for the playoff format bc of the locked divisions they would have missed the playoffs

The benefited from sneaking in bc of a 1 year format and Toronto doing Toronto things.

They should have tempered expectations this season

Not really a choice. You can't sit on Price for a year without at least trying at this point. It's do everything in your power regardless of other teams, or rebuild without Price, which they've done everything possible to avoid.

The best team on paper doesn't always win. That's why the games are played.
