It'll be very tight. GM's will pay top dollar for Weegar if hes available.

Wirh 4 years left I doubt it's worth whatever the cost is. They'd be better to just accept it as a sunk cost for another couple years.

If it costs to dump hornqvist vs getting assets back for duclair the latter may make more sense

They likely have to trade a d too. Forsling is a luxury on the third pairing.

True but that just makes the team worse which doesn't help them

They really didn't like him. Or Reimer... Seems not worth the cost

He has a NMC. They pretty much can’t. And his buyout option is god awful. Doesn’t really save them much that route lol. Barkov is as good as gone after the yandle buyout, signing bennett, and signing Reinhart.

Just buying him out saves 3.53 million

Disagree. Neither of Bennett nor Reinhart are immoveable. Same with duclair, and their defense. They can make the space for him. Huberdeau though is likely gone

They just signed Reinhart and Bennett so it’s highly unlikely. Although I’d argue Bennett’s contract will be hard to move cause it’s a bit of an overpay.
I agree that Huberdeau is likely traded to try to fit Barkov in. But it’s gonna take a lot of the prospects to be ready next year to make it work. Also Tippet taking a smaller bridge deal. It’s gonna be very tight either way.

Imagine the year after when Huberdeau, Weegar and Knight will also need to renegociate their contract.

That’s just next season. It goes back down to ~1.2M after that for 2 seasons and Darling is done after next season so that’s ~6.5M they’ll get for 23-24.

The cap issues are overblown; trade hornqvist for the last year of his contract, and after the 2023 season we will have to make some tough choices. Weegar likely leaves, I see more risk in giving him a lot of money than giving Huberdeau a lot of money (see: vlasic)

After the 22-23 season is when Bob becomes somewhat moveable barring he approves. 3 years is workable for a team going thru a full rebuild given the return is worth it obviously. It’ll take quite a bit but I think FL could retain some money and then split the price between a couple of teams to get further retention for a team to take him as a player. IE retain $2.5M, send picks to rebuilding team B to retain at least $2.5M, and then send more to team C to take Bob at only $5M.

Also the year after this FL gets ~6.5M in cap just from Darling buyout being done and Yandle’s going back down to ~1.2M.

They’ll be able to work thru this but it’ll take a lot of draft capital so I hope they get their deep playoff runs and Cup because after this window it’ll take quite a bit of time to rebuild.

No I meant just not being able to resign Huberdeau not trading him per se

Does Barkov get that much? Can't think of a good team that could offer 10.5, so I think he stays in Florida.
NMC Bob stays. I wonder if Florida giving those contracts to Bennett and Verhaeghe were too much considering the short period they were actually good.

Then they won’t be able to re-sign Barkov. Barkov will be a free agent next year. Huberdeau will still have 1 year left of his contract a 5.9 million.
