Description
First and foremost, I am not a Canadiens fan and not everyone will agree with my opinion or thinking. The main reason why I did this was that I was curious as to what the Canadiens' lines might look like this season and turned out making a small trade that might help them make the playoffs because let's be honest, last year was a fluke.

I also want to say that I use @jfreshhockey (on twitter) player cards to make a lot of my analysis on players.

When trying to piece their lines together, I noticed that they lacked a playmaker or more pass-first-minded player. That's when I thought of players they could trade for, It came down to Rickard Rakell and Dylan Strome. I decided on Strome because there have been reports of him being on the trade block due to his poor season. As well, JFresh's player card indicates him as the better player analytically.

Now for the trade, I don't know what Strome's value is exactly but I decided on a roster player, a fringe prospect, and an early day 2 (rd 2 or 3) draft pick. I was deciding between Lehkonen and Armia but chose the former because it feels like Artturi has played lots on the 4th line for the previous few seasons and might be expendable with the Perreault signing.

Below are the lines I put together. I've read that Drouin wants to play centre for the Habs but I started him on the wing with the possibility of him moving to the wing if they decide they want Strome on the top line.

Lastly, I just made some random depth signings don't look into it too much. Some players stay with the team they sign PTO's with, some don't.

Let me know what you think, roast me if you want but at least be reasonable. Again, I'm not a Habs fan so take everything with a grain of salt.

I could see Drouin and Strome both having big bounce back seasons and maybe that propels Anderson into a sh% bender so the F core really comes together...

Idk that's about the best case I can make here

Ultimately tho closer to the lottery than playoffs

The overall defensive unit (+Gs) is mediocre

F core nothing special overall

I agree. I don't think they make it either. Just something that might help propel them to.

Chicago isn’t really all that interested in that trade. I would say this falls in the the quality > Quantity issue from out POV. We are already crowded at forward and can’t roster Lehkonen, and the other pieces aren’t very motivating.

F Core = 4 lines with Goal Scorers who arent liabilities
D Core= All Work Horses with 1 Show Horse in Petry. Not Flashy but pile up Hits and Blocked Shots(big help for Price)
G Core = Stellar With one of the leagues best Back ups , Top 10 NHL Goalie Prospect under 23 and Carey F'n Price fresh of a SCF

I agree our Dcore could be better
But Come playoffs i like this Core's Size and ability to shut down top guys.
Romanov-Demers is a nice Duo with JD playing the stay at home D allowing Romanov to explore his offensive side more knowing he's covered(JD is sound in his own end even if Offense dropped way off)

Would we like a better 4th D and Savard on 3rd pair teaching Romanov ? Yes!
But its not the world we live in Sadly as MB made no real effort to replace Weber as they really just Upgraded on John Merril/Empty Spot D rotated into all season on and off.
I'd love to have Soderstrom or Timmons from TML to groom as our RD behind Petry/Savard is Brook and no one
But it seems more likely we'll be plugging our Slew of LD prospects into the RD until we find a fit

These aren't the best sources but I used these two articles to base a Strome trade. You can remove Lehkonen if you like and add other draft picks.

Let's say I made zero trades...
Personally, I think you'd banking a lot on Drouin and Anderson to have real bounce-back seasons. As well, have Hoffman know his role and do it well because I see him as a one way player: PP specialist and shooter. He doesn't really drive the offense. As well, I don't think the left side of their defence is strong at all and will really rely on the right side. Yeah size and grit is cool and all but eventually, you're gonna need some skill in the back end other than Petry. Really hoping Romanov makes a big leap.

Our LD as is was strong enough for a SCF so thats pure opinion inspite of fact that isnt even 3 months ago so shouldnt be forgotten so easily .
Drouin and Anderson arent being thought about to much they're the 3/3 person on each of their lines
MTL runs 4 line system under Ducharme usually with those lines staying the same and when changed 1/3 forwards on 3 lines are flipped or he uses Bench depth players.
He doesnt line mash and 1st and 3rd line have about 1 minute ice time difference 5v5

Hoffmans - On a Line with ARZ leading Goal Scorer the past 2 years and MTL's (he's not even the biggest Goal Scoring Threat on his line so he'll slip in undetected like Glenn Anderson made a career on)
Drouin/Anderson are on 3rd which often was played 4th line due to KK poor play with Lehkonen/Byron-Evans-Armia/Perry 4th line stepping up which eventually became Armia-Staal-Perry line in the playoffs
Armia and Evans can both rotate up to 3rd line to replace either
Paquette can draw in as 4th C with support from Perrault in the faceoff circle if needed

Romanov has an Entire year before we expect anything from him
Then his security blankets of Kulak/Chiarot are gone and he's on his own surrounded by LD Prospects turning pro

Are they? In a division with TBL, FLA, BOS, and TOR they are most likely going to finish 5th so they better hope they have a record better than the 4th best metro team

I have them before Toronto but realistically, 5 Atlantic teams out of 8 would make the playoffs in any west divisions
