I will say it all again,

1. These trades are all heavily lopsided (thinking NJ overpays for PR win).

The gap between Quinn and Smith is de minimus.
If there were a trade, it would be Quinn for Smith (with some minor parts perhaps).
And that is it.

2. If Quinn-to-NJ ever happens, it would not occur this year. Or next. Or one after that.

Quinn has 5 years until UFA or NTC/NMC could arrive. So he has little say in picking his destination.
Only real, viable path to NJD in next few years is if he signs 1-3 year extension now.

We will see the three Hughes brothers play together at the 2026 Olympics before they skate together on same NHL team.

3. It is not usually VAN or NJD fans posting these.

So I would suggest to neutral fans that they listen to what both sides have been saying...its not happening.

I don't think that NJ can afford this. With this trade they are upgrading by a little bit, meaning Smith is still great, and yet they would only have around 14 mil to find a replacement for Subban, give Hughes a Payday, and give Bratt, Zacha, and Wood bigger contracts. This would not be smart for NJ given that Foote is decent and Smith wont cost as much as hughes while probably being the better defenseman given his contract.

I am neither a Vancouver fan nor a New Jersey fan, but I would like to see the Hughes brothers play for the same NHL team at some point. Whether or not it is this season, I do not know. But Vancouver does not exactly have enough cap space to sign both of them to the big contracts that were rumored. That’s why Vancouver has been so scared of an OS to Petey, as if it is more than 10mil, they most likely can’t bring back Hughes, unless Hughes is willing to only be payed about a mil. Looking at the statistical side for NJD players paydays, Jack Hughes most likely isn’t getting a BIG payday. He will most likely be getting a slight raise on a bridge deal, something like 2-3mil x 3 years. Because if you look at the statistics, J. Hughes has played more games than most if not all of his draft class, but he does have the best points pace. That title goes to Hoglander, who has played half the games as J. Hughes, but has more than half the points he does. But I am getting off topic, so I digress.

My point is, I am not sure when a deal like this will happen, but Q. Hughes will most likely end up as a Devil at some point.

As a Canucks fan we have never had a players like Quinn. Like 50 years of drafting - never had a player like him. He's an absolute dynamo offensively. I know you think he is awful defensively, but he played against other teams #1s the majority of the year and was often playing over 30 minutes a game.

I'm sure Ty Smith is a good player but his numbers are pedestrian. He played crazy sheltered minutes and still was a dash player with negative EV. Quinn has roughly doubled Smith's point totals.

That's like me saying "Hoglander and Jack Hughes are roughly the same player. Maybe we'd have to throw in a 2nd or 3rd."

Smith played 3rd pair to start, but mostly top-4 for most of last season.
Not sure where you are getting "crazy sheltered minutes" from, but it is not accurate.

Also, gap between Ty Smith and Quinn Hughes is quite narrow.
The gap between Hoglander and Jack Hughes is massive...so not the best comp.
Maybe Hoglander and Bratt would be more fitting
(Ie, Bratt - Hoglander = x = Quinn - Smith)

Quinn Hughes played one game last year at 30 minutes in an overtime game against Montreal. He averaged shy of 23 minutes a game so it’s really stretching to say he “often” played over 30 minutes a game. Outside of that Montreal game the next closest was 27 minutes but he routinely was around 23 minutes like his seasonal average shows.

Hoglander scored more than Jack last year with pretty close points. Hog also had very little PP time. I'm not saying they are comparable, I'm making fun of you for comparing Quinn to Ty Smith.

QH had nearly double Ty Smith in points. Think of the difference between a 40 point player and an 80 point player.

Yes Jesper Bratt to Hoglander is another good comparable to QH and Ty Smith in that NJ fans severely overvalue their players lol. Bratt is 3 years older and considerably less of a player.

Alright, you got me there. I was going off memory and it seemed like he was playing a ton a lot of nights.

Apparently that is mid season results, I just quickly searched Ty Smith. Here is a grade from a NJ website.

Ty Smith is not as good as Quinn. But it’s close.
The difference is a lot less than an A-level prospect and a 1st pick.
