Only 2 teams can retain on a player at a time. So MAX amount of retention you can have is 5 750 000 then the next team can retain 2 875 000

You can only retain salary twice per contract, but that could be solved by making SJ retain more and paying more to just two teams instead of five. As it stands, I don’t think teams are willing to create $666k in dead cap for their team for the next 6 years (that’s a lot of 6’s) in exchange for low level prospects. Interesting deal idea though.

Caps probably aren't looking to trade sprong, he is one of only a few good young wingers they have, they probably look to keep him long term.

Too bad his contract is 6 years. Also, since you only get 3 retention spots, you are wasting not just money and money against the cap, but a retention spot as well. I would expect loan shark rates, these are overdue library book rates.

Buying a retention slot for 6 years will be expensive. Very, very expensive.

Did you see how Karlsson played last season? NO ONE wants to pay him 5+ mill to play next season let alone for the next 6 years, the sharks are stuck with what will no doubt be the worst contract in NHL history.
Wilson is praying he bounces back next season cause without a bounce back season I doubt he keeps his job

He was plagued by injuries, he’d still be an elite d-man if that weren’t the case
