Game One lineup The conservative take

Description
I know, its not sexy, but I say all the youngsters start in Utica. Maybe Clarke or Foote break through, but they'd get more PT in AHL, which is why I say they go down. This gives Johnsson his last chance in NJ with consistent minutes & Boqvist a better chance with a veteran wing (theoretically) ... Zetterlund gives 4th line another big body to replace Bastian, he has nothing else to prove in AHL anyway, so its now or never. AJG gets comfortable in the press box, Studenic takes minutes from Johnsson or Zetterlund as needed.

On blueline, my gut tells me Graves was targeted to play with Severson, nice compliment to each other. Smith next to Hamilton becomes top pair. Dont sleep on PK and Siegenthaler on third pair ... I think they will do serious work vs better matchups. Bahl et al also go to AHL to get ice time.

Lets go, time to get back on the ice!

Disagree on D pairs
I'm not sold on Graves up top but bc he played a lot with Makar it looks to be a better fit they we think. Sevs and Smitty was a good pair.
That woudl give them balanced d pairs of a defensive minded player with an offensive minded player
Agree on 3rd pairing.

I think Mercer makes the team. Agree that JesperBo needs quality min as does Janne but jesper is right behind AJ on hitting the door in their butts

Long-term, I like the idea of
Bahl - Hamilton
Smith - Severson

Not sure we get there this year though

You think Graves is better suited for third pair, talent wise? I like him 2nd pair, but I could see that argument.

I know they played together often last year - well at times / others no so much, but Smith / Sever could be improved on imo. Early season is the time to try new looks / combos. Smith and Hamilton could be highly dynamic (both very competent defenders & the offense speaks for itself) ... Graves gives Sever a break from providing the physical aspect that Smith does not offer (not to say Smith is soft, just small) & frees him to think more Offensively. I like breaking them up, but maybe your right, guess we will see soon.

Agree last chance for Jesper at 3C. He better take it. Too many in pipeline to fight off if he does not have an impact this season. Love Mercer, but they need to give him at least a 1/2 year of pro hockey (AHL) before feeding him to NHL defenders, dont they?

I hope Bahl turns out to be what we all hope, but Im not sure yet. That pair would be up there with All NBA eligible NHL pairs. Good gravy those two are huge.

No sorry it was 2 thoughts-
I like the 3rd pair of Siegs and PK
I think Graves is at #1 LHD (he's a good #2 IMO), but I did question it early on. I did not like what I saw in the games that Avs got bumped from him. He pinched A TONNNNNNN too much! He cost them a couple games with it. Went back and looked at playing time etc with Makar and it fits in with Hamilton.

With all else you noted I agree, Mercer though may be this years Bratt
