Less than 100 game and 5 milj sounds a lot. When been watching these goalie singings from this summer, i have to say that Saros have worst manager ever. There is so many goalies who made bigger or same contract. With a lot less games and lower stats and wins than Saros from his career and last season. Saros last contract was also robbery from Nashville and his new one is even bigger robbery. With this contract Saros would had to get 7milj per year, maybe even 8milj.

Oh my gosh. LA could have signed Ullmark for that amount of cash.

Dang, that AAV seems high. I like the player, but it really seemed like more of a 3x3.5 or so type of situation.

Reading some of you guys comment on LA players, it's like if none of them could be any good...

Good signing at market price for a No 1 goalie.

Also, Doughty will make team Canada. There, I said it.

Don’t think they should’ve signed him now. I would’ve waited till after this season. This was his prove it year as the true starter on the last year of his deal. I do also get signing him now because he is a UFA at the end. I think it’s a risk they didn’t necessarily need to take but I think it’ll pay off. This guy is good.

Not that bad. He's pushed Quick out of the starter role and deserved to get at least close to his salary. They Didn't overcommit on term and it doesn't kick in until next year (Quick's last), so they are getting what could be his best 4 years and leaving their options open for when he's over 30.

He's shown enough to suggest he's a starter and $5M is a good price for such.

Petersen is highly regarded both inside the organization and out. He's 26 and in the final year of his contract before becoming a UFA. If the Kings didn't extend him now, they could have lost him on the open market next summer, and the Kings have no one else in the system that can play in the NHL. Quick is still a capable NHL goaltender, but he's not going to play the lion's share of games anymore. He's good for 20-25 starts.

Guys like Shesterkin and Merzlikins signed for more lucrative contracts with fewer NHL games under their belts. This contract is right in line with those.

I wouldn't call it a steal, but it's absolutely fair value. Since it's backloaded, it's also buyout friendly if his play drops off.

This is very similar to the Demko deal so its weird to see everyone rate this as a bad signing while Demko was rated as a good signing.

At the time of signing Petersen has: 54GP, 0.916SV%, 2.79GAA, +8.3GSAx

At the time of signing Demko had: 62GP, 0.911SV%, 2.92GAA, -3GSAx (this is actually his current GSAx for his career, I couldnt find his GSAx for only the first 62 games)

Statistically Petersen has been the better goalie throughout their careers, although Demko did just come off of his best season while Petersen just came off of his worst

50 NHL games played should not equal 5 million AAV.

This screams Martin Jones

I don't think he's worth this much, but I guess it's good to get him locked down before he gets good enough to demand more. Surprised he costs as much as Saros, but goalies are getting slight overpays all the time. Maybe it makes the position more attractive to play in the future?

Martin Jones was fantastic for San Jose during his comparable deal that he signed in 2015. It was the following contract that turned out to be a mistake.

Ullmark has two bad seasons and 4 average. Peterson has 3 solid-to-pretty-good seasons. I'm saying this as a Bruins fan - I would not only much rather have Peterson overall, but for shorter term this is waaaay better.

I'm thrilled with this. Even the term -- by its end, we'll know how good he will be as a #1 goalie and how close we are to contending for the Stanley Cup.

It's possible but don't forget that we only see goaltenders for 50 games, but the organization sees all their practices as well. They should have a good read in general. Mistakes happen and goaltending is less exact than other positions and more volatile in general, but you have to take risks at the position in order to secure someone good or another team will.
For $5M short term, it's worth the risk. At least it's not a Bobrovsky contract.

Almost any goalie in the league could have pushed Quick out. He has stunk for a couple years

Nurse is a true LHD so I don’t think they would compete against each other. Weegar had eye opening performance last year, but probably not enough.

Doughty over Hamilton a thousand times tho.

People had no problem throwing 9 million a year to Kaprizov but complain that Petersen's being unproven at the NHL level?
