Way better? Nope. Better defensively but not offensively. Quinn had a bad season, but hes a 21 year old who hasn't hit his peak yet.

Slavin for Hughes + 1st is awful for Vancouver

This is the first Slavin trade that I've personally seen on this site that gave me pause.... I still don't think Carolina does it.

Slavin is easily top 3 in defensive defenseman in the league. He also has offensive upside. Slavin plays at an elite level at 5v5, can play at an elite level on the PP, and is an elite penalty killer. The only thing in that list of things that Hughes can do better than Slavin is on the power play. Hughes also is not very good defensively from what I have seen in the limited amount of Vancouver games I have seen on the east coast. Simply put, Slavin is better than Hughes and is an untouchable on an absolute steal of a deal.
