Makes 0 sense to do... Koskinen has 1 year left on this deal, Dobby had one solid run, otherwise has been a career backup, why get older and add more term while giving up draft assets.. The Oilers would be better off with Koskinen and Smith, while bringing up Skinner, Rodrigue, Konovalev for spot starts, OR trading for a BETTER than Smith starter....

While I agree that paying DET a 2nd for salary retention while Dallas gets a worse pick for the player makes little sense, I also tend to agree that the price to upgrade a goalie might be more than what EDM wants to do, I disagree it makes 0 sense to look into an upgrade, EDM is in prime Mcdavid and Draisaitl time, and I absolutely do not think Koskinen can take them to the finals or win a cup. They should look to upgrade, Its just going to be very difficult without giving up good assets, and if they do, would it be for someone whos worth it?

Detroit only have two retention slots and 5 players on expiring contracts they may need to trade at the deadline. There's no way we're going to trade away a retention slot that we need ourselves.

Oh, I 100% agree that they should be looking at upgrades, but Koskinen for Khudobin is a lateral move with more term and he's older, so that deal would make 0 sense... But, I agree, they NEED to bring in a goalie that is better than Mike Smith and can be the 1A or clear cut No 1 guy instead of Mike Smith being 1A and Koskinen(or Khudobin in this scenario) being the 1B option...

Khudobin has a 2 year contract and with 50% retention that can be fit under edmonton's cap next year. I would like a really good goalie too but they realistically don't have 5 million for a goalie in 2022-23 and with khudobin you dont get what you want but you get what you need. He has proven he can perform in the playoffs. They are likely going to have a goalie squad this year for the event that a goaltender gets covid so 1 Roster exempt Goalie who travels with the team. I want Edmonton's goalie prospects playing not sitting in the press box and i also want to be able to have skinner under the cap next year.
