Yes, this undrafted 18-year-old that hasn't played professionally in more than a year is getting signed before Pettersson, Hughes, and Tkachuk. I love the name, too. Forget JVR, JRA is the big acronym in Philly now.

Other teams this week: Big RFAs and cornerstone players

Philly: an Undrafted C that likely will play 4th line in the AHL

After five multi-million dollar deals in a row, this is rather disappointing.

Also, it isn't a good deal. How did this guy get more than league minimum?

You could sign someone with NHL experience for less than this and most would be happy with three years, because it would give them stability.

What, did the Flyers just browse through the Avon catalogue until they found this guy?

This looks amazing now, 68 pts in 64 games in Peteborough, still 19 yrs old.

Not the next Bedard, but a nice pickup, cantbelieve this has five bad votes

JRA was at rookie camp last season and actually played pretty well as an undrafted player. Who knows if he ever becomes anything but he had a pretty good season in the OHL last season. its not a terrible bet. His salary will be lower because he won't be in the Nhl its mostly just philly making sure they have his rights.

If Philly didn't sign him he probably would've been drafted this year.

He was also a year older than most of the other top OHL talent and that matters. Maybe his game took a step up, or maybe he benefited by playing against younger / smaller players and he won't get that benefit in the AHL / NHL.

Maybe, but for the 5 no votes it looks dumb now. EVERY team signs a few shot in the dark free agents, this just happened to be a good one, but the votes against taking a flier on a jrs guy looks good now.
