Canucks move out Hughes for two big, young, physical, defensive defensemen and a veteran puck-moving defenseman all for cheaper than Hughes' salary. That enables them to sign 8 year extension with Elias Pettersson.

New Jersey gets all three Hughes brothers

Canucks move out more expensive Myers for (another) Pettersson, a defensive LD. And they deal Miller for the last year of his contract for a more defensive 3rd line centre.

Penguins will only have John Marino at RD going into 2022 off season. Myers gives PIT flexibility to use him as shutdown pair with Dumo or as stay-at-home partner for Pierre-Olivier Joseph. Miller provides some secondary scoring either as 2nd line centre (if Malkin departs) or as top-six wing.

Canucks move out OEL's contract ($7.2 million over next 5 years) for smaller salary ($5.5 million over 5 years) and add some size to the wing.

OEL joins Edmundson, Petry and Savard in Montreal's top-four. (Chiarot and Kulak both have contracts that end in 2022). Byron is added at 50% to make trade cap-neutral for one season. This gives Montreal more flexibility in re-signing RFA's Suzuki and Romanov.
