Interesting. I felt his writing fell off after the end of the first series. I read both his first and second series (except book 5, it hadn't come out) in the same time frame, and I just felt that it went downhill after the end of the first series. Book 5 was also a disappointment, mostly due to the gratuitous love parts taking away from the exciting storyline (Nico and whatever was going on there, Leo and the girl stuck on the island I felt both were just distracting.

I think this has more to due with how beloved Percy is as a character than Riordan’s writing. He hit gold with Percy Jackson and everything else was just pretty good, but not as top tier as Percy. In the 2nd series Percy isn’t even in the first book (mentioned a few times but not present), and is 1 of 3 main characters in the 2nd book, then only 1 of 7-10 for the rest of the series. He also goes through some very difficult times being stuck in Tartarus, which isn’t as glamorous as killing the Minotaur barehanded and later Medusa in your first week as a demigod. This is kinda the reason I hate book 3 of the Ranger’s apprentice series, because the main character is reduced to a drug-fuelled slave, who then needs to recover for literally the whole book. Good for character development, but not as interesting as fights. I also think the Calypso thing was kind of a token gesture because Leo was the odd man out of the 7 but meh there are worse filler storylines, and everyone needs to have a love interest, even the joker that likes machines more than humans.

Top prospect Kravtsov

I'd want a trade too if my team screwed me out of a starting spot by signing 4th line grinders to fight Tom Wilson

Sounds like there are a lot less people in your leagues, mine has 18 which is why guys like Kempe and Patrick are on my roster.

Yeah my first league is 12, and second league was 10 but got reduced to 8 this year. I won the first league last year so I picked 12/13, and I thought I had a pretty good draft (I like some of my later picks, like Strome and Faulk) but the first turn was kinda underwhelming, as I needed to take Theodore to replace Dahlin as my keeper D moving forward despite objectively better players being available, and Ehlers so I don’t get totally boned in points every week, despite him not bringing much banger stats to the table.

In my second league I’m fairly loaded not just because it’s down to only 8 teams, but also because I had an extra 1st and 2 extra 4ths, plus I finished 2nd last year despite selling at the deadline lol, so I had 3 picks that were in the range of guys kept by the two folded teams (Petey, Wilson, and then Eichel, who I could afford to stash for next year). It ended up with me owning 14 of the top like 83 picks (7 keepers, 7 selections) so this is definitely a go for it year, and I’ve also improved my keepers.

You’ve got a pretty good roster for an 18-team league, I’d like to get in a bigger league (especially a dynasty league, I’d love to try that format) but haven’t been able to find one yet. What kinda guys are in free agency? I had a few sleepers I was considering drafting but just weren’t worth the risk in a 12-team league (guys like Pius Suter, Jack Roslovic, and Yegor Sharangovich).

Yeah, I first read this in I think 4th grade and even at the time I didn't like how he handled some of his choices. I get character development isn't that exciting, and I try to give him a pass with some of Riordan's writing decisions, but at some point it felt like needless development. Again, I have to go back to Nico's character since I felt his love interest stuff just felt unnecessary, especially since, at least to my memory, he didn't appear in the next few books. It felt like it was just to take up space instead of a worthwhile character arc. As for Leo, I know they brought him back later on, but I felt, even at the time, they should have killed him off. Him not dying felt unfufilling, and if they had allowed him to die when it was really a good time to, and used him like Bianca to progress the other characters, I would have been much happier.

McDavid is on a can't cut list so I couldn't get rid of him even if I wanted to.

So Kravtsov is requesting a trade.

Those NYR fans who said that he’s going to be a Calder favourite are looking pretty bad right now ngl.

Usually it’s like the top 15-25 ranked players in the league. Lehner, Rantanen, and Marchand are on there for one of my leagues, but not Pettersson, who’s ranked like 35th.

One way to understand how old the Capitals team is checking their D-men.

After 22 year old Fehervary, their second youngest D-man is 30-year old Dmitry Orlov.

Well technically TVR is one day younger than Orlov is but it honestly doesn't make it any better.

Sens could use him too, we need more right shots in general, and there’s openings in the short term with both White and Watson injured, as well as Tkachuk out. A kids line of Formenton-Pinto-Kravtsov line would be fun, especially if it could be the 3rd line behind like Stutzle-Norris-Batherson and Paul-Tierney-C. Brown.

Well thats pretty misleading. Carlson, Schultz, and Jensen are all 31, TVR and Orlov are 30. The oldest player is Irwin at 33, and he will be a scratch to start the year. While the whole defense is starting to age, It's not a representation of the Caps age at all. In fact, there are only 2 people over the age of 33 (where it seems people start to regress hard imo), which are Ovechkin and Oshie. This team has thankfully gotten younger over the last couple years, and Maclellan thankfully doesn't seem to have a hard-on for signing veteran FAs instead of letting young guys play.

Most of the top players in the league. Comeau's not on it, unfortunately.

They're still comparably very old. Not ancient, but still old. That D core is subject to change fully in less than a handful of years.
