That's almost twice Buffalo's asking price, and I already think half this package (Lehkonen, Guhle, 1rst, 2nd), is already too much, especially with Eichel hurt.

Overpay, he just failed his physical and got stripped of the C, Adams waited too long and overplayed his hand.

Realistically take out a first and the second

Too many picks, not enough, (or the right), prospects.

The three firsts are nice but the Sabres will want at least one A-list real player in any Eichel trade. They've made that pretty clear.

Why pay soo much to dedicate 10 million dollars of precious cap space towards a broken asset? I have a hard time believing the surgery is anything of a sure fix otherwise Buffalo would have done it in an attempt to have him pass the physical to start the year and truly cash in on him.

I agree thats what they want, but the longer this goes the less likely that becomes. I think they will end up somewhere around an offer like that where its a solid prospect who was a late first round pick, with a package of picks and a few nhl contracts to help with Eichels cap.
That being said i dont think its MTL that ends up making that deal.

That won't do it. It would have to be Ghule+ and picks.

I don't expect Habs fans to accept that, (and that is totally okay), but its the reality.

I think you are probably right. I don't see Montreal as an "ideal" trading partner for Jack Eichel to be honest. It would likely cost more than they are prepared to offer.

Buffalo HAS to get this right, or it will set them back another ten years.

Agreed that this is a very key move for the future of their team, that being said i have very little confidence that they will get it right especially given that all the picks and prospects they get back still have to be properly developed. I know its an unpopular opinion but if i was buffalo i will be loading up on as many assets as possible in this deal, instead of one key prospect, because there's so much that they need and you cant assume you are going to hit on all your picks even if they are first rounders.

What prospects or players do the Sabres have:
LW: Skinner (yes he will turn it around with a new coach), Olofsson (he does excel at PP but he did well was on pace to 20 goals without jack), Bjork, Asplund and Caggiula. Prospects Rosen and Peterka.
Center: Cozens, Mittelstadt, Girgensons and Eakin. Prospects Ruotsalainen.
RW: Thompson, Hinostroza, Okposo. Prospects Quinn
LHD: Dahlin, Butcher, Hagg. Prospects Power, Bryson, Samuelsson, Johnson
RHD: Jokiharju, Miller, Pysyk, Prospects Laaksonen
GK: Anderson, Dell. Prospects, Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, Levi.
I put a bold on the areas the need to be filled.
Lehkonen, Veteran LW, Buffalo's strongest NHL position
Guhle, Buffalo's deepest and best prospects
Armia, Buffalo weakest NHL and prospect position.
2023 1st round pick (MTL) and 2024 1st round pick (MTL) At this point, I find it hard to believe Buffalo would want to wait the 5 or 6 years for a draft pick to join the NHL team
So while there are seven pieces to this trade, only three fill the holes in the Buffalo rebuild, Armia and the two 2022 draft picks.
@Trevorchef said it best "Too many picks, not enough, (or the right), prospects." I hope the summary of the Sabres above explains why he is 100% accurate.
So if Montreal really wants Eichel they will not give up the pieces that Buffalo needs.
Please look at Buffalo needs it shouts CENTER and RIGHT WING, Montreal only has one that fits Buffalo's time line and we know the HABS will not do that, nor should they.
