The last thing the hawks need is a bad defenseman in gostisbehere. Also rather stick with kubalik who's been more consistent and will be cheaper to sign than gamble on Laine

Kubalik > Laine Which doesn't mean Kubalik is an All-Star. It means Laine is very very over rated.

I don't disagree, but Seth Jones is also very overrated, and see how that trade worked out.

Laine isn't going to be cheap to acquire by trade, and CBJ aren't going to trade him for pennies on the dollar, particularly if a team values him high enough to put him on a top line of a Stanley Cup contender.

For Laine, a trade package with CHI would probably look something like a 2023 1st, PHI's 2022 2nd, and Reichel. Mind you, that's if he doesn't come with an extension.

Hawks can't do this due to cap issues next year. Would also much rather have Murphy on the 2nd line then Ghost..there is no need for Ghost. Lastly, Beaudin is not a first liner at this point and likely never will be.

I disagree about Seth Jones. Yes, anyone could say that I've turned bias after the trade, but all you can do is take my word. I wanted Seth Jones ALOT more than Dougie Hamilton. 2-way Dmen and even stay and home Dmen are MUCH harder to find right now than puck movers. Puck movers also are getting paid WAY too much money. I 100% agree that trade value for Jones was bad. I would have preferred to keep the 2022 1st round pick...OR wait until he was a UFA in order to pay him that contract. BUT again...Seth Jones was #1 on my wish list entering into the summer. I actually think he's one of the more UNDER-rated Dmen in the league.

How does this relate to Laine. Laine is a one dimensional player. He has a HECK of a snipe. One of the best in the league, but he's lazy, he doesn't play any defense, and he wants a MEGA contract. I think once Laine gets his contract he'll be a very middle of the road type prima donna and that's the last thing the Hawks need.

As for the trade value. I stick to my guns. Two wrongs don't make a right. Don't trade for Laine.

My point was just to say that reading this board during the Jones trade saga, it was nothing but "he's overrated," and see how that trade worked out. Tons of ACGMs built around severely depressing his value. The sentiment with Laine is largely the same. I think every ACGM that is built around the promise that Laine can be got for pennies on the dollar kind of automatically fails. But that's more of a general point, not so pointed to this ACGM. We're in agreement here - you don't want Laine to CHI, and I wouldn't want CBJ to trade him for this package.

I didn't like the Laine trade when it happened; but, Dubois' on-ice hissy fit unfortunately forced the issue and a desperation trade. To his credit, he is a guy who needs a set-up man in the form of a playmaking winger or a good C. I think, to CHI's credit, they have the type of talent that could get more out of him than a rebuilding CBJ club can right now. The entire reason they traded for Voracek was to build up Laine's value.

And, FWIW, I agree with you on your point regarding defense. Then again, a lot of players I think people on this board would foam at the mouth to get are otherwise not very good on D. https://twitter.com/jfreshhockey/status/1371217246387863554?lang=en
