Yes he could be the 1C but because Suzuki is the guy of the future I think its his to lose for now. Also Couture on the third line could be lethal. Witkowski starts in Laval but can be called up occasionally and potentially used in the playoffs. Helps physically insulate the youth and skill in Laval

That doesn't get you Couture at full pop, let alone SJ retaining half.

I don't see SJ even considering such a lopsided deal. Logan is still a really effective player.

He is, but they're rebuilding, and his contract is tough to swallow. This gives them a few assets and a cap dump who expires in two years.

He is still effective now, he wont be for the back half of that contract, hard to be paying a 36,37 year old couture 8 mil as you come out of a rebuild and have young guys to sign. I think if it did happen the retention would have to be lower maybe 2-2.5 mil, less attractive to mtl but i dont think sharks could justify eating 24 million of that deal unless those picks are much better.
