I disagree. Q Hughes is elite (by the way Jack Hughes isn't elite). Smith may end up being a top 4 Dman. Mercer and Boqvist are totally unproven. You don't trade your potential SUPER star for lesser players. End of story.

Also Pettersson has not earned an $11m contract yet.

Offensively yes but defensively he’s terrible.

His defense was terrible last season, as was the entire team defense under Baumgartner. Prior to that, esp in the bubble playoffs of 2020, he showed he can defend well. I wouldn't put too much stock in last season's defense, which is another reason why I wouldn't be selling low on QH

Lmao. Smith as a rookie is already a top 4 dman. As for hughes he is top 3 in worst defenseman defensively. Him, barrie and deangelo. He isnt and will never be a number 1 dman. Because hes such a liability defensively. Jerseys 1st will probably be top 10 simply bc of how tough the metro and east as a whole are. Mercer is unproven yet looks great and boqvist looks like he will be a solid 2 way 3rd liner. Theres no way im doing this if im NJD.

Take out Mercer and the pick, and that is the realistic return ...should Vancouver ever be forced into moving Quinn.

Hughes is terrible defensively

'He will never be a number 1'. He is the Canucks number one dman, right now. He would be New Jersey's number on dman, right now (you could probably argue Dougie is better, and I'm sure you would).

Ty Smith played by far the most sheltered minutes for NJ last year and was still a negative player. QH also almost doubled him in points.

Bc in order to argue that id need to have someone with the other opinion and i dont think anyone is dumb enough to say that quinn hughes is better than dougie hamilton. I also know that you dont really know how to evaluate hockey players. I know your eye test is all screwed up thanks to your comments about dougie (who btw is a fringe top 5 dman certainly top 10 whereas quinn isnt close to that) and i know you dont know how to use stats/analytics either bc you are using points to determine how good a player is, let alone the fact that its a defenseman.
Also just bc hes the best defenseman on the 2nd worst defense in the league (per jfresh hockey) doesnt make him a number 1 dman. Leon draisaitl isnt a 2C even though hes the 2nd best C on his team.
